I have an SL8 in the gun safe that is totally pissing me off. I was going to sell it but my wife stole my AR so now I am stuck with the fuggin thing.

My stormy love/hate relationship with the SL8 revolves around the optics. I want to put a medium power variable on it and that friggin stock rail was designed by some german hare lipped retard to prevent the mounting of most respectable scopes on it. :mad:

I understand some new scope rails are out now to address this...but are they commonly available? I have a cheapie Tasco on it for now but that is like putting a slant six in a Maserati; I would like to put a decent variable (say 2.5 to ten or 4 to 16) on it made by the guys at Nightforce or one of the other high end makers.

Do you guys have any recommendations?
 
Go ahead. I have a Vortex viper pst 1-4x24 on mine, no problem with eye relief or height. I used "low" vortex tactical rings, optic is almost touching the rail, perfect fit.
 
NEA is supposed to be releasing a G36 modernization package soon, IIRC. It'll include an aluminium rail, charging handle, and bolt hold-open/release (?).

We have several of our bolt releases out in active trials right now.. Germany, Saudi Arabia and the USA. Not sure when we'll get around to full public release yet.

.. you are correct there are several projects on the go for the G36 but our AR release is taking up most of our time and machine space so it'll likely be a few months before we get a chance to run them out.
