This week I got a No. 5 (slightly sportered) in the shop for some work and at first thought it was a fake because it was marked differently than the others I had seen.
In the past I have handled a couple dozen Jungles and they were all ROF's and this one is marked M-47C, which stands for B.S.A. Guns, Shirley, Birmingham. After some research, I discovered that they were one of the two manufacturers who built these rifles. It is 1945 built and the only thing I can see that doesn't jive is the N67 (Singer) cocking piece and possibly the micrometer sight. It is graduated correctly to 800 yards but it is stamped LB. Is that even possible ??? Did Longbranch make sights for the No.5 ? The serial numbers are matching but those on on the bolt handle are stamped while the ones on the frame are electro-pencilled. That makes me think that someone matched a bolt to this frame. What do you guy's think ?
Anyways, here is a pic of the sight.
