Several companies that had 552's in Iraq had the same issues.
It seems to have been limited to a run of about 5k 552's from what we saw. It was both the op rod as well as metal on the carrier,

The civy CQB's did not have this issue

Ya, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, especially now that the 553 conversion kit is available. By not running it hard and hot it will be pretty tough for someone with 5 or 10 rounds mags to have an issue.

I've never heard of anyone with a semi CQB ever having an issue.

The 552 may be a short & accurate weapon, but it is not reliable.

I've never had a stoppage with mine, but I have seen several weapons have catastrophic failures. That's enough reason for me to stop carrying it.

The failures include such minor issues as bent return springs, broken return spring rods, bolt carrier broken in half, gas tube sheared in half, etc. Not what is expected out of a $1800 USD weapon.

The B&T Rail system for the 552 is not worth buying, but is almost neccessary as the handguards overheat after only a few magazines. It does not lock in positively enough to mount optics or IR accessories.

I've shot thousands of rounds through a number of 552-style CQBs with both the plastic and metal guide rods. I've never had a problem with any of them.

I didn't OWN a 552. But it was certainly issued and used as one by several members in this thread.

Ok I didn't realize that political correctness had gone so far that we had to resort to veiled speech.

Personally I'm not really comfortable saying that I have 15 firemen locked up in the basement. That strikes me as a little ga...heterosexually challenged.
