Are there any sources of info online for belgian makers and inspectors proofs? I have seen the belgian littlegun site and the damascuss site but can't seem to find anything else. I am trying to date a pistol that is post 1893. It has a crown over L and what looks like a tiny star over A with a line over the A or possibly a superimposed capital T this mark is on the barrel, cylinder and frame.
Any assistance would be greatly apreciated.
There are no other marks except the crown over R riffled proof on the barrel

Very hard to find this info i can tell you if the gun has that Little lion with its tail in the air that proof came out in 1898 and any gun with that lion on it is not antique.
Check over the gun close its a small lion. if it dont have that mark thats a good sign but not 100% its pre 1898.
Belgian guns without that ELG in and oval without the crown ontop are very hard to date.
The little gun site is about the best i know.

the star over T is a french proof and post 1898 unless I am mistaken. The T refers to the type of powder used in proofing. Star over S is pre 1898 although may extend into post 1898

Eh bien - the marks are as follows -

Star over A = Liege inspection stamp - 27 Jan 1877 to 26 Feb 1968

Crown over L = Liege inspection stamp - 30 Dec 1853 to 26 Jan 1877

Crown over R - Liege inspection stamp - as above.

There SHOULD be many other marks on the gun - such as the Perron - a stamp that looks like an ornamental column, and calibre marks as well.

Right now it does not appear that your gun is post 1893 - at least, from the inspection marks.

You have not mentioned what kind of pistol it actually is?
