AR15 Front Sights Blocking Red Dot

Just get a cheap riser, (NC Star, Leapers, any place that sells "SKS" accessories should have them) they are like $10-$20.
Here, Marstar carries them for $20

I have one of those cheap ass Aimpoint clones on my DPMS, co-witnesses great and holds zero....all kinds of them on Ebay for $20-$40. I use to have an Eotech, but felt kinda of silly with a $500 RDS on a range-only rifle :) If SHTF, I'm using irons anyway :)

Looking at the sight on the CT website, it appears to come with an integral mount.

It looks like it is probably a little low for mounting directly to an AR flat top rail, which is why you are getting the sight picture you are.

If you want to practice getting used to shooting the RDS with both eyes open, you can cover over the front of the scope (with some duct tape if it does not come with covers).

This won't solve the problem of the "upper third" co-witness you are experiencing. If your front sight is actually blocking the target rather than sitting at absolute or lower third co-witness, then a spacer is the only thing that will solve that issue.

Ignor the whole "cheap cr@p" thing. Not everyone can afford (or even make proper use of) a Noveske with CQBSS. Shoot the hell out of it and save up for something better, if you feel you really need it.

Regards.

Mark

came with a lens cap....pretty neat-o practicing this way.

I dont get to the range much and when i do dont go through too many rounds....$60 worth of ammo my last trip to the club so i cant do that too often, most of which was 7.62x39 with the CZ858.

Posted this experiment just to follow up to you all that I finally did it and it was a success.

Ill get the riser/ new RD / rear flip up irons later perhaps money permitting, but atm i dont see the point in having all this just to practice with a front lens cap on.

I'd like to note that after I do buy the proper gear I hope to still be ignoring my RD sights and looking at the target with both eyes open.....ill have the same setup that you guys say I should have....but be shooting the same way I am learning to do now.

unless you guys disagree with looking past the rd sights, focusing on the target, both eyes open....

thats where my current research is- technique- not the gear

Ditch the whole Co-Witness B.S.
Get flip up sight's and a nice long handguard rail. In the meen time I have a riser if you want to clear your front post sight that is blocking your red dot field of view.
Also alot of people on here froget why people buy red dot sight's in the first place. To have a clear, wide, uninterupted field of view of your target and surroundings. Seriously if you are co-witnessing you might as well never baught the red dot and just use your factory irons. Hence why there is such a demand for flip up sight's. Plus it's nice when you just get to point and shoot and not have to worry about lining up stuff.

I dunno, I bought a red dot for faster target acquisition....
Also, the co-witness idea (for me anyway) was RDS primary, with folding BUIS.....red dot craps out, you can just flip up the rear and keep on shootin' :)

Apparently you haven't actually learned why people use red dots in the first place.

You also seem not to know the difference between co-witness and absolute co-witness.

People use red dots because they are faster, more forgiving in terms of cheek weld, absolutely outperform irons in low light, and are easier to use in conjunction with movement.

bingo...and if you run a micro, the RDS itself will act as a ghost ring for close range shooting even before you get the rear sight up.

WoW hit a never?
Havn't had much time to dress up like Sargent Slaughter and pose in front of your mirror? Or did your mom take away your playing the video game time? Cuz the OP's video really looks like he is in the heat of battle in were was that...
Oh ya a worn torn rifle range.
LoL!!!
CanadianReich as long as your out there having fun blasting don't worry if you have the same gear as some one might or might not have on the battle feild. Just as long as the rifle you are using gives you pleasure when you punch the paper and leave these computer comando's to there own deviece.

I wish I still had 2 cameras. The one I have now is a "flip" camcorder and kinda sucks. Its only good for close range. My old one you could get a shot from behind and still sort of see what I was shooting at at 25M but not so much this one.

When I had 2 cameras you could see me shoot like in my "experiment" vid but you would then see a cut to the target before and while the rounds were hitting (and you would know it was the same rounds as the sounds and timing would match).

Those 2 shots really did hit at 25M with the cap on but Ive no way to prove it.
Its pretty fun to try out though, for anyone that hasn't tried leaving the front cap on your red dot.
