Here are the 2000 rounds challenge rules

Inspired by the latest episode of CRR I've decided to run my Ruger 10/22 through the 2000 round challenge this summer.

Today I ran 712 malfunction free, failure free rounds consisting of:

50 CCI Blazers
200 CCI Standard Velocity
462 Winchester Dynapoints

I've retired the bulter creek magazines until the test is through and am alternating between 3 Ruger factory mags.

I will update with each range session.

Here's a shot of the rifle from a previous range session:

I'm down... I won't be able to start for a week or so, but I'd love to see if I could make 2000rnds without a stoppage/cleaning.

Will update :D

It would take for-eeeever to put that many rounds through the tube mag of my Cooey 60, however i'm quite positive 2000 would not be an issue. Not sure I would bet on my 10/22's though they are very very reliable even with the butler creeks.

I put just over 2000 rounds through my 10/22 during the last range session(4 days ago). My results may not count since I did take preventative measures to ensure the barrel doesn't lead... For every 150 rounds of lead(non-plated) ammo, I would shoot some G96 down the barrel. The gun has already been cleaned so there's no real point in taking pictures...

50 rnds blazer - no failures
50 rnds CCI stinger - 1 misfire, finally went off when refired
100 rnds winchester T22 target - no failures
500 rnds remington thunderbolts - one dud, one stovepipe, 2 misfires(went off when refired)
525 rnds remington golden bullet - 3 jams on extraction
1110 rnds winchester 555 pack - 3 stovepipes, 2 failures to feed

On a side note, my scope rail rattled itself loose, need more loctite I guess...

I don't know, what is the challenge?
Shooting 2000 rnds through my 10/22 / SR is three or four shooting days, generally about the point I get out the solvent :)

The challenge is to shoot 2000 rounds through a rifle or pistol and record all malfunctions and stoppages. If it goes through the 2000 rounds without either, it passes the test. Very simple.

:D Nice to see CRR making an impact in the shooting community.

The official rules are:
2,000 Round Challenge
RULES

* Shooter must use a single firearm (distinct brand, model, caliber, serial number) for the entire 2,000 rounds. The firearm should be properly cleaned and lubricated before the test begins. Any brand firearm, stock or modified (please list all modifications), any caliber.

* Shooter can take as long as necessary (days, weeks, months) to fire 2,000 rounds through the pistol.

* The firearm cannot be cleaned, lubricated, or maintained in any way during the entire 2,000 round test period.

* Shooter can use any type of ammunition: factory, remanufactured, or hand loaded. Shooter can use as many different brands, styles, bullet weights, etc. as necessary as long as all ammunition meets the SAAMI specifications for the caliber of the gun.

* Shooter must report ALL stoppages, malfunctions, and/or parts breakages that occur during the 2,000 round test regardless of cause. This includes any such problems that are deemed "shooter-induced" or "ammunition-induced."

* If a stoppage, malfunction, or breakage may be ammunition-induced, the shooter can follow this procedure (but must still report the actual results with the original test firearm): if the round still has a bullet, powder, and undetonated primer the shooter can attempt to fire the round in a freshly lubricated and cleaned firearm of different brand than the test gun. If the round fails to fire in this second firearm which is clean, lubricated, and not of the same brand, then although the original stoppage or malfunction must be reported it will not count against achieving the "2,000 Round Challenge" success criteria.

DEFINITIONS

Stoppage: Any failure of the firearm to go through its entire cycle of operation. This could include a failure to feed, fire, extract, or eject. A problem qualifies as a Stoppage if and only if the shooter is capable of fixing the problem without the use of any tools, without disassembling the gun in any way (magazine can be removed), and the firearm is in firing condition in less than 30 seconds. For example, a stovepipe or failure of the slide to go fully into battery would be Stoppages. Failure to lock back after the last round in a magazine is fired, even if the shooter believes it was caused by an improper grip, is considered a stoppage.

Malfunction: Any failure of the firearm to go through its entire cycle of operation and which requires the use of tools, disassembly of any part of the pistol, and/or takes more than 30 seconds to resolve, but does not require any parts replacement. For example, a dislodged spring or a front sight that falls off the gun would be Malfunctions.

Breakage: Any failure of the firearm to go through its entire cycle of operation and which requires parts replacement (springs, pins, locking block, anything) to resolve. For example, a broken spring or chipped extractor would be Breakages.

A firearm must fire 2,000 consecutive rounds without any cleaning or maintenance or additional lubrication without any stoppages, malfunctions or breakages to qualify as having met the "2,000 Round Challenge."

I ran my Ruger 22/45 some more the other day and I plan on running a bit more tomorrow before I shoot some trap. I only have around 500 through it right now though. So far so good though. One dud, but it was definitely ammo related though as I tried firing it four different times on different parts of the rim.

I agree. Not much of a challenge. I usually put over a thousand rounds through my SR every time I go to the range. Its usually the ammo that causes the failures, not the gun.

I dont clean my 10/22 ever !!!!

I only use the cheap Winchester stuff at crappy tire

Im over 5000 rounds thru it and have yet to have a riffle malfunction... I seem to have 2 to 3 FTE from the ammo per box of 500...

Not much of a challenge really . A thousand rounds isn't even a Sunday afternoon of shooting for either my wife or I . We shoot mostly every weekend using CCI mini-mags with our 39a's and only clean when performance begins to deteriorate [ maybe once a month ] . Same reliability with our Browning SA-22 , never misses a beat .

I don't think I want to try this with my nearly-100 year old Cooey ACE 1. I guess I need to convince the wife it's time for a new .22 for this discriminating competition :p
