I've decided that I would like to purchase a 9mm SMG or Carbine and have narrowed down a few options taking my student's budget into account. I have listed what I think are advantages and disadvantages of each. If anyone has any additional info or opinions, it would be greatly appreciated.

1. Beretta Storm - $1100

Pros:
-Cheaper compared to other higher-end carbines
- 16 inch barrel in compact design (29.7'' = total length)
- can use beretta pistol mags
-integral iron sights

Cons:
- plastic internals (can buy metal internals so I hear)

2. K.P.O.S. Glock 17 conversion kit - $400 for kit, $600ish for a used G17

Pros
- Versatile, can be used as just a pistol, or easily changed into a PDW
- Glock reliability, easy to get parts for
- I finally get to own a glock! :D
-very compact with folding stock

Cons
- Perhaps just a stabilized pistol, unsure of how the kit compares to other PDW or SMGs
-no integral iron sights, would have to purchase irons in addition to optics

3. K.P.O.S. Sig p226 conversion - $400 for kit, already own sig p226 navy

Pros
-versatility
-Sig reliability, easy to get parts
- SRT kit and hogue grips already installed on Sig
- don't have to buy a new pistol and already have 6 mags for sig

Cons
-same as for glock
-won't be able to get a G17 just yet :(

4. Save for a higher-end SMG / Carbine (eg. B&T TP9 or the APC9)

Pros
- B&T packages include aimpoint micro optic
-quality/ reliability ??
- I would be the coolest kid at the range (in my opinion)

Cons
- cost (over $2500), less the optic the firearm would cost $2000ish
- expensive/ hard to find parts and mags??

As I said before, any comments, opinions, or experiences relating to this would be great! Thanks!

The 226 KPOS is listed at wolverine supplies for $450

I'm not really leaning towards a non-rest 9mm as i think a 16inch barrel would be the max length I would want.

Is there anything about the Ar 15s in 9mm that make them a better choice?

Also, who sells them? I know questar sells some, but are there other dealers?

Thanks

I got a chance probably 7yrs ago to shoot a TP9 from B & T. After shooting it, I bought the Glock Conversion with 16"bbl. It was ok but springy sounding so I sold it. I finally ended up buying a B & T TP9 and have never looked back!! I picked up a couple more mags from Wolverine. I've dropped rounds on target everywhere from 0-300yds out. It's amazing, accurate, never had a failure or any problem with it. Since I bought mine, 4 of my buddies have bought them and they all love it and it's now part of their kit. You can get a brass catcher for it, a dummy can. I put a Hogue G17 rubber grip on mine as did my buddies after trying mine, It's the SH!t Save up and buy it. You'll never regret it. Seriously.

I'll never sell mine.

I always wanted a Carbon Fiber 9mm AR and found a guy on here that had one and tons of mags for it but he sold the thing without giving me a chance to buy. I'd probably still buy one just cause but as for compact lightweight and accurate, the TP9 is perfect!!! 300yds on body shots with a short bbl. It doesn't get better then that.
