Will Elcan ever stop using ARMS mounts?

If there is one consistent complaint I hear about the Elcan Spectre, it's "the ARMS mounts suck ####ing balls."

I have heard this literally a hundred times, usually from people who love the optic itself and are extremely frustrated by the fact that they dropped their rifle while getting out of a vehicle, and found they couldn't use it for anything other than CQB until they got it re-zeroed.

Personally I don't have to jump out of jeeps with my guns, let alone helicopters...but still. ARMS mounts continue to be the weak point of what I believe is otherwise an excellent optic.

Everyone I know who owns or was issued one says the same thing...love the glass, love the reticle, love the 1/4 switch, love the FOV...hate the ####ing mount.

So seriously, will they ever get away from that god damn thing?

I've seen/heard/read alot of bogus claims all over the internet regarding the arms mounts on the Specters from people who are taking 2nd hand accounts and bashing the optic, or supposed military guys that say their unit received a thousand of them and they were all crap, so everyone went back to (insert brand of scope here).

So, prior to purchasing one I talked with some actual owners (LOTS of actual owners), and I heard nothing but praise -- and not once did I hear any issues regarding the mount itself. Now I have two Specter DR's.. but the rifle I was intending on putting the new DR on doesn't look like it's making its way here anytime soon, so I'll be putting my unused one on the EE soon. I honestly can't see the mount breaking and/or losing its zero under pretty much any circumstance -- they're solid. I don't know if the Gen 1 or 2 versions were lesser optics, but the new ones from 2009+ are A-OK.

Overall, great optic.. don't believe all the BS from others who never even handled or even seen the optic first-hand.

There is a lot of negative BS out there about the arms mounts on the DR's. Ive read back to about 2006 on several forums searching this claim as well, and I've only read of 2 people who have actually owned one and had re-zero issues. One reposted later to say that it was an error on his part and not the optic or mount. I have literally read hundreds of posts on this subject and 99.999% of the guys writing negative comments are basing it on what they have heard or read in the past, and they have helped in perpetuating a rumor.
ARMS has come a long way over the past decade and any Spectre DR you buy that has been made in the past 5 years will not have any issues. Not surprisingly most of these rumors started on the US forums where most of the guys drink a lot of ACOG and Aimpoint koolaid, and can't comprehend the possibility that Canada could produce an optic that is better than what they use.

So do I get a free swastica flag when I buy an ARMS-related product.

Cause if that's the case, I'm getting a Spectre DR tomorrow when I sober up.

Ok. If I wait to sober up, it might be the day after tomorrow.

Glad you guys are satisfied with yours...none of the guys I know who have been issued them have been satisfied with the mounts. That is about a dozen guys, all with the same complaints...all guys sharp enough not to run in to the usual 1x/4x zero problems, all guys without coaxial alignment issues, ALL guys who said "the mount is ####ing garbage".

ARMS mounts are notorious, so that's not surprising at all...

So while I'm glad you guys feel it's sufficient, my question is the same as when the thread started...will they ever start using a better, non-ARMS mount?

Go for a Gen 3

I highly doubt that they will stop using them. ARMS has been making good mounts for a long time and several companies are stating to use them like EoTech, Trijicon ACOG's and some Aimpoints. keep in mind that Gen 1 and 2 of the Spectre DR had zeroing issues and lost its zero fast if you went from 1X to 4X or banged it hard if you get a Gen 3 you wont have that problem. I took my Spectre DR 1/4 thru 7 months of hell and it never lots zero its been banged around, remover and put back on for cleaning and switched from 1X to 4X and still held its zero.
