Hi should I spend $800 on an used sightron III 8-32x56 or a new minox 6-30x56? And also in the sightron should I go with mil dot or crosshair? For a benchrest 6br. Or a fixed 36x?

Thanks,
Chad

One thing you may want to check is whether they have 1/4" or 1/8" click adjustments.. not sure if that matters to you or not for the type of shooting you do.

from what I've heard they are both pretty darn good scopes.

I remember somebody mentioning that the prices on the minoxes might go up.. they are trying to break into the North American market right now so pricing low. Apparently that is what happened with Swarovski (can anybody verify that?)
This is just speculation though, perhaps the price will stay the same.

GRiNGo, what is intended use? For target shooting, the Sightron models have parallax adj. which is necessary for best results.

Peter

Ya, I built a 6br just for fun target shooting, not competition or nothing! I have a cheap Tasco custom shop 8-40x56 on it but the clarity is just not there, obviously.

Go with the Sightron, good optics solid adjustments and 70" vertical/horizontal
Minox very good optics but untested for repeatability and only 40" adjustments.

I'm going with a Sightron. They have recieved good reviews. There was a thread here on CGN, and it linked to some fancy optics review, and Sightrons were well rated. Sorry, don't have the link for you.

Just picked up a Sightron based on recommendation from trusted source and several good reviews online. Very nice optics and features for the money, have not shot it yet. 6-25x50 mildot reticle w/ 1/4 MOA clicks.

Another plus, from what I've read, is Sightron's warranty is equal to Leupolds, and transferable from user to user. I did contact Sightron to confirm warranty is transferable if you buy a used scope, and they replied 'Absolutely'. Also to note, they replied to my enquiry within 24hrs.

I'm liking the idea of the SII 36x for a couple of reasons, I run mu scope now at 30 power all the time and they are half the price of the SIII. Is the quality alot less for the SII or just marginally, obviously you get what you pay for.

The SIIB amd SIII have the same quality glass which is noticeably superior to the SII, according to many customers.

I just received the SIII 6-24x50 LR with mildot reticle from mystic precision. I haven't handled too many higher end scopes before but I am quite impressed. Very clear glass, nice solid clicks and if you look at the specs it has quite a bit of adjustment. Personally I prefer the mildot for target shooting. Yes you can use them to range targets but I find it most handy to figure out how much you need to adjust when you're slightly off target. It helps to have the landmarks on the reticle. My two cents.

Yes, note that the 36x is offered as the S11 or the S11 big sky. big sky is a couple hundred more but may be worth it.
but now you are near the price of that used s111 8-32 which gives you a 56 mm objective and bigger exit pupil.
