Wtf?

Consider this. If you were in a firefight and ended up in the prone position behind a low wall, what if you had to shoot over that wall without exposing yourself too much? This setup allows you to just raise the barrel above the wall and you can aim using the BUUIS(backup under iron sight). Now who feels stupid?

I guess I'm stupid, because I can't figure out how you would aim the thing without a front sight.

I've also seen guys do that on AR Pistols to avoid AOW licensing issues... AOW == The Any Other Weapon designation given to guns like AR Pistols with a vertical grip. That is a backup sight, not a vertical grip... Thus, an AOW tax stamp is not needed.

At least thats what some people say... I happen to disagree.

I've seen the US Marines carry their carry handle like that. It's on the rifle where they can get to it quickly if the optics die.

the thinking behind it is this, plus this :

I guess it might make sense for guys who are issued a gun with a carry handle, and have to keep it handy in case they need to switch back to make somebody above them happy.

I think it was on liveleak, a guy had uploaded a video from a helmet cam, with his carry handle on 9o clock position. A couple of guys commented and asked him about it, he explained that he replaced it with with some optics sent from home from some friends. He kept it on there to prevent it from getting lost, so when he returned his weapon, it would be intact/as issued.
