My brother got one of these recently, Ive been noticing alot of people have them in. he figured itd be cool, fairly affordable surplus gun to play around with. Damn what a riot! I was really impressed by how well we were doing at 100 yards just smoking the S out of a bunch of clays.

The gas system gave us troubles until we figured out to set it to 1.3- works great now and a big surprise.

Do gun nutz love the svt-40?

I think it is an awesome rifle to shoot, I still dont understand why people think it is hard to take apart I am on my 4th and 5th svt at the moment one of them is like brand new she wont leave the gunsafe, my other one is my go to gun

Shhhhh... don't tell anyone what an awesome rifle it is, they will all want one. The BS about taking it apart and/or corrosive ammo, some people are simply not meant to own firearms. They should stick to knitting and finger painting.

My only beef about the SVT40 is that it eats ammo like crazy, flutes the brass and takes a bit more time to clean. Brass whores like me have a hell of a time finding spent brass as well.

I prefer to shoot the bolt actions. Easy to clean, no urge to dump a mag rapid fire (personal problem I guess :) ), and spent brass can be carefully extracted and put back in ammo box.

I will never sell my svt-40. X2 on the brass. If I am shooting brass I will just work it like a bolt and shut the gas off to save the brass if I want to keep it. But surpus. Let her fly. Yes it loves to empty clips. I just wish there was an original version without the break on it. Then I would be more inclinded to take it hunting. And I don't plan on chopping one off.
The svt-40 and M305 are must have full power semis if you are into that and you eyes are still pretty good. ;)

That's what surplus ammo and procedures for cleaning after corrosive ammo firing were designed for ;)

MFS ammo is available at 20 for 11.00 at a few sponsors they are plated steel case SP non corrosive so you can go 2 or 3 outing without cleaning completly, since i use them i love to shoot both my SVT without much assle and they are extremly accurate... JP.

Oh yeah, two awesome large rifle semis! can get pretty expensive between the two of them though....sad when a gun makes you think shooting your large rifle bolt action is cheap.

I heard there are some out there with mags that haven't been chopped. Any ideas who sells them in original mags that have been plugged?
