Anyone here ever build one, I had formed up some brass and was going to have a reamer cut when I found the 6mm super long range which was almost identical to what I wanted to build.
From what I read I think it could be a promising little cartrige it's a 243 win with the shoulder bumped back to make a longer neck and a 30 degree shoulder.

List your wants and I am sure a couple of the barrel dealers on here will be able to help you.

I am partial to Krieger but there are others that can get the job done as well.

If you want to shoot up to the 105/107" you will be looking at an 8 twist barrel. I have shot the 75gr Hornady's with my 8 twist barrel and they shoot quite well which is a bullet you may want to look at for yotes.

28 finished, fit a 700 action, 7 twist (prefer having a little extra spin) with a heavy contour.
I want to use the 107's but like the idea of having the option of going to go to the 115's. I haven't had any luck, as of yet, finding an in-stock barrel.

Sorry to hijack your thread Coyote.

So build one and let us know if it's a viable 6BR killer.

I hope :D it is actually a long BR same top end give or take a few thou's here and there.

I've got the reamer on order should be here soon, now I am in the same boat as shooter for the barrel I spoke to a few guys for barrels about 8 weeks exept 1 guy may be able to get me what I want by the end of next week.

It will have a large primer though.

It will have a large primer but from what I have been reading larger case capacity cartriges that shoot heavy bullets with slow burning powders burn the powder better with the large primer.

You could get small primer but hen you would need to add a step or three by necking down the new 308 lapua brass.

Trevor

I thought of that trevor but I will try a large primer first the 6.5 284 has proven itself time and time again and it has a large primer, so I figure it might not be so bad.
I will probably end up trying a SR primer to compare though.

Hey Coyote

I would start with lrg first no sense adding additional steps when first starting out.

There is a case to be made that slow powder with heavy bullets benefit from small (Flash holes) in reducing visible pressure... less back thurst

I like the LR case design..

Looking forward to hearing that Roberti11 and yourself will be providing some feedback on this chambering.

I am also looking forward to see what this cartridge is capable of,and I have found a barrel if I want it loather walther I have heard good things about these barrels maybe someone can confirm this.

Ian at Herron Arms has some experience with these barrels and rates them very highly.
I am having him use one on my Savage LRPV in 6.5 Grendel in stainless.
Apparently they are worth the wait.....

Several years ago, I went through the 6-6.5X47L phase and it was a bust. I did the 6XC phase and the differnce was night and day except you are forced with having to either get greased up the hoop with Norma, or buy tubb brass. you can make 6CX out of 22-250, but you lose the nice long neck. The dies are weird, but it is a really nice cartridge.

By accident, I ran a 243 brass into a 6X47L die and this is what came out. It was one of those real peanut butter/chocolate epiphanies.

Anyway, I was always convinced I had stumbled on the holy grail of 6mm's and I figured I was now master of the 6mm universe.

Whitley beat me to the punch, called it a 6 SLR and the rest is history.

It has all the makings of a superlaitive 6mm. What I dislike about Whitley's reamer is his predillection for loose sloppy necks, and his spec'd .275 neck is too large and sloppy for my liking, but it looks like a winner. Will it beat a 6BR in the ICFRA short range target? Hmmm. you tell me, but it is a winner for making 115-117 grain bullets sing.

O btunded robert beat us both to it then I took a piece of 243 brass and put a piece of flat steel on top of the shell holder in the press put a 243 seater die in the press and ran the brass up so it was flush with the bottom of the die.
When I pulled it out I was looking at a short 243 with a long neck so I thought I will just blow out the shoulder to 30 degrees and have about the same capacity as a 243 with long neck and improved shoulder, this was 2 years ago so when I was ready to order the reamer for it I stumbled on to the 6mm slr it was almost identical and decided to go with it.

Well I guess I will resurect this thread, I just received my barrel today and it is to late tonight to chamber it so maybe tomorrow night.

I should have it together for the weekend and am anxious to see how this thing will shoot.

I'm probably going to chamber a rifle in either this caliber or a regular .243 Win. (throated for 115 DTACs) just see how it compares to my 6mm Crusader. What are your barrel and reamer specs, if you don't mind my asking?
