IPSC Nationals RO...unload & show clear?

If racking the live round out quickly is so dangerous, what should we do if there is a jam in the middle of the stage? every time you pull the trigger their is a chance that the gun will explode, due to over stressed parts or bad ammo. Thats what we wear safety glasses for. One of the risks you take when playing with guns.
 
colecreek, if you had the balls to say "hey i think this RO is doing a ####ty job" in the first place, we wouldn't have called you on your BS. BTW, I see nothing wrong with how D was running that stage. He had full view of the shooter like an RO is supposed to.

It happened to me! When ejecting a live round on 'unload and show clear' I had always cupped my hand over the ejection port to catch it until one day in the late '80s testing a new gun a .38 super went off on the ejector. The bullet of course didn't go anywhere, it's not the movies eh?, but the case ruptured and peeled back into a star with sharp edges and lacerated the middle two fingers of the left hand with LOTS of blood! The RO thought I had been shot until I showed him the case and figured out what had happened. The provincials were in two weeks so had to shoot it with the two fingers heavily bandaged. Since then the live round is ejected onto the ground with the ejection port facing down.

The ruptured case is in my shooting bag to this day to remind me what can happen.
 
I rack and catch. Its the only chance I have to see if my ejector and extractor are working properly. If they are the live round goes straight up in front of my face. My catching it is a bonus. If I miss it goes on the ground and stays there. Forever. If it goes off its far away enough amd angled so that I might catch a little shard or two, but nothing worse than that. Its not showboating it function testing.
 
I watched the video several times and must say that I didn't find any problems. Having said that I see your point of view. It is unfortunate that you got lambasted for having an opinion, which discourages others from having a say, or worse, the sport loses them.

Here let me try to help you.

In the first post I said "Would anyone care to comment on how they might have positioned themselves differently at unload and show clear?"

My question clearly implies that there might have been a different way to RO the process of ULSC. I stated the question as an open-ended statement, a technique recognized in business and law as appropriate to ferreting out information and ideas.

Thing is that in business and in the courts successful practitioners have learned to moderate their impulses and fears, and to stick to the matter at hand rather than rely on red herrings to make their case.
 
Maaaaaybe the RO could of been a bit closer and up in better position to do his part more better, I can see that..maybe ?
why pass the timer to score keeper, slightly delaying him getting into position to finish the shooter ?
though he did say the last part while backing up instead of standing right there till done.
which, if shooter was to turn around with the gun while holstering (just if) RO was already backing up and would have to quickly jump back forward to stop the shooter...

again, the angle of camera maybe hard for us to say for sure...
Just an opinion... I wasn't there.
either way, I'm sure all RO's don't perform their part 100% best way possible every single stage and shooter....stage restrictions, movement, etc...
I'm sure the RO is a great RO.
