Sorry but I have too much respect for game animals and don't believe folks should be trying unrealistic shots at game animals. In the field, when hunting, most folks can't shoot 2 MOA due to heavy breathing, poor rest or lack thereof, this translates to alot of wounded animals at long range regardless of the bullet used. Shooting in the field while sitting on a rock pile is not the same as shooting from the bench in a relaxed atmosphere.
Marketing bullets and hyping them for this purpose only encourages poor hunting techniques and when coupled with unrealistic TV shows, I wonder how many wounded animals will suffer this fall?

I wonder how many wounded animals will suffer this fall after being shot in the guts at 40 yards while running broadside by a hunter at full steam? How many will suffer because a hunter shot less than a box of ammo through his rifle in the last year, and attempts an offhand shot at 175 yards?
The unprepared are more likely to miss than wound at long range. Those who are prepared usually kill quickly and efficiently, whether at short range or long. These same guys that are prepared also typically know their limits and stay within them.
That 168gr 7mm LRX seems vedddy interesting...

I have a box of these .308 - 175 LRX bullets and will see how they shoot in my new 308 Norma Magnum.
If they even come close to the 168 or 180 TTSX, I will be happy.

Nobody on this thread said anything about shooting at X distance. I have some 140gr TTSX and will try the 145gr LRX to see if it shoots better in my rifle. I practice regularly - including off-hand and with my shooting stick. I know my limitations. I don't "need" the better BC, just like I don't "need" many of my firearms.
Part of the fun of our hunting/shooting pursuits is trying new things. Otherwise we would all be shooting a Stevens 200 in .30-06 topped with a Weaver K4 spitting out factory Remington 180gr Corelokt ammo. Actually, that doesn't sound too bad.

We're not ALL "run of the mill" hunters though, Ben.
With all due respect to Askins, there are some who practice a lot in field positions, and I personally am one of them.
If I couldn't keep my shots in a 6" circle at 300 meters, I will stay home!
Obviously, offhand shots much outside of 150 meters are not taken.

RUn of the mill hunters buy a box of Federal "Hunter Pack" ammo because it has 24 rounds in it to "sight in before hunting season."
Then they lay their rifle over a case of beer (bottles, since they are sturdier than cans) and wang away, twisting their scope knobs after every shot. By the 10th round and the 4th beer, they proclaim "it's good enough for deer!" even though they haven't shot anything that even resembles a group.
Those run of the mill hunters dont' buy $1 a piece Barnes LRX bullets and work up a load, and they eye handloaders with much suspicion, saying stuff like "won't catch me rolling my own bullets! Just going to blow up your rifle that way!"
