Is there anything someone can say to a meat eater who hates hunting?

My standard response is that at least I don't have to hire a professional killer to feed me and my family. If they still get pissy with me I just tell em to go pound sand!d:h:

Tell them nothing. Ignore them and move on. Anything else is wasted energy. My sister in law was telling me today about the 700lb black bear that they saw outside their house...in Cape Breton. Polite nod and let the topic die. You can't win so there's nothing to gain from trying.

I like to feed my family free range meat that lived happy without undue stress, under the sun in the clean air.

If someone can't understand that, they can go outside and play hide and go |*** themselves :yingyang:

Having been down this road a few times, trust me, you won't change anyone's mind. Try arguing the merits of trophy hunting to a meat hunter, same thing. They either get or they don't, and in most cases it might be better to discreetly change the subject or just walk away.

I am a devout Carnivore

But not the least bit interested in killing wildlife.

I'll eat deer, Moose.. what have you.. if put in front of me, as once dead it may as well be eaten, and frankly it's good eats, but I won't kill wildlife.

I understand that in many cases controlled culling of some species is necessary due to imbalances in Predators to Prey in some areas ( particularly in Rural -wilderness transitions areas where predators impinge on animal husbandry )

But I'm not a supporter of "sport" hunting.

For everyone who eat what they kill, good on you,

I have hunted.. and have killed... but I have never enjoyed it.

So I participate in the man made agricultural based food chain, and I'm fully cognizant of all that entails ( grew up on a farm) I have no issue with animals being killed to be eaten, they were created for the purpose.

I don't look down on sport hunters.. I just choose different sports that don't involve killing things that don't need killing.

Rest assured.. if I'm hungry.. I have no compunction about killing and eating anything.

I really don't understand the moral position that killing wildlife is "not right" but killing cattle is fine.. this is hypocritical.

in my opinion killing wildlife is "not necessary" ( for me ) because we can produce animals bred for the purpose. And let the wildlife be.

I've ran into a few people like that - generally there is no talking sense into them, I like to call them 'contract killers'

On the other side of the coin, I also know a few people who are 'veggies' because of how the meat indistry is run, but are more than happy to have a few steaks of 'free-range, selective harvest, organic' moose.

Even the most hardcore Toronto anti hunting folks back off in the face of the following exchange:
-Are you a vegetarian? (Ask with a smile)
-No.
-Then you are a hypocrite! (Maintain your smile)
At this point, they usually find a reason to remove themselves from the discussion. Such a brutally honest logic. Of course, it is easy for me because I only hunt what I eat.

If some one is set on hiring their killing done, there is nothing you can do to change their mind until they can no longer afford to live in an irrational dream world. Like others have said, either vegan, or a fraud....

Life is far to short to worry about such people. Unless they actively try to deter or protest hunting I could care less. Let them live there lives in blissfull ignorance. It really is better that way.

No they seem to be the head in the sand types where as long as they're not associated with it, they can detach themselves from it, even if they are indirectly responsible.

This is exactly it. I was eating lunch with my father-in-law and his wife last week. His wife is a serious peacenick type, the type that feels violence is never justified or necessary, hunting is barbaric, and guns are vile. Other than that, she's quite nice. During our meal conversation I brought up how the meat between her teeth was brought to her by violence, and how wrapping it in styrafoam and cellephane didn't change that, in fact it may have been brought to her by long term suffering too. Whether or not she chose to accept this or face it, had little to do with the reality of it, and that she was welcome to create whatever story made her feel more comfortable, and I promissed not to burst her bubble in the future. I'm sure that cow died of natural causes.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a party pooper if you were hoping for me to blow smoke up your rear.:p

Iv'e tried the "reasonable responsible hunter" routine for years, and eventually tired of it. Now I just go for shock value, and go on the offensive..

I say "I can't believe you eat that crap on a regular basis!!! No way I want to be ingesting all the chemicals they stuff into that factory raised meat! You feed that to your kids? Gross. Don't be surprised if they start growing a third eye or something. And the cruelty these animals are subjected to is unreal. How can you support torturing animals like that??

You go ahead and eat that tortured animal toxic meat chemical cocktail - I'll keep eating the free range, organic meat from the forest, raised without cruelty."

At the very least, I get to amuse myself for a bit.:D

I like to tell people with that attitude that " I don't contract out my killing like
You. I take care of it myself " also this one helps a bit " It takes skill , knowledge , intestinal fortitude , and being smarter than your prey. You have none of this, so I guess others will have to feed you. So shut up hypocrite"
