Here's some pics of my Polish M44 which I bought from Dave at Demal Services 4 yrs. ago for $135.oo, and it arrived in un-issued condition.
Naturally, I had to set up this rifle to my liking so I started by removing the
pig-sticker from the barrel, then blended, polished & blued the barrel
sleeve to finish that bit.

I then fabbed up the bolt handle using some 3/8" cold rolled steel rod.
The original bolt handle ball was saved and is secured to the new handle
shaft by drilling & tapping the ball, then after screwing on the ball, a
fine TIG weld was applied prevent movement. The new handle is secured
to the bolt body in the same manner. A wee bit of polishing finished 'er up.

Next came the fitting of a Huber Concepts stainless trigger followed by
bedding & free-floating the action. I finished off by filing the front sight to
a point.

The Polish Mosins are by far the best made and finished rifles of their type.
Mine has a .309" bore and shoots sub m.o.a with Lapua 123gr. FMJ on
top of a load of 18.4 gr. of Trail Boss powder. I've not chrono'd this load
yet, but will. I haven't done a thing to the finish on the stock because it's too nice as-is to mess with.
This project will be fully complete when I finally get ahold of a Mojo Micro-Click rear peep sight.

So you bubba'd a perfectly fine rifle and you are proud of it.

You will be in for a real flaming my friend, good luck.

At least you have some courage, or is it ignorance?

That's very nice work you've done. Did the POA change after the bayo removal?
Removing the bayonet hardly qualifies it as "Bubba'd" It still looks like an M44, just neater.

Thanks chumlee;
Yes the POI did change due to the improved harmonics of the barrel.
The groups centered up better than before, but the Huber Trigger in
combination with the bedding & free-float job made a huge difference
in shrinking groups. That, plus using the correct bullets for the bore
and not using hot loads, make this rifle deadly accurate.
Cheers
JJ

I'm interested in this load.
Are those bullets meant for 7.62x39 ?
What is the sight setting you use to get it on a 100yrd?
Can you give us more details on this load?

The bullets I use for this load are .308 dia. and are suitable for Polish and
Finnish Nagants which have tighter bores generally.
Hornady .310 123gr. bullets shoot nice out of this gun, but not as well
as the Lapua.

Def a good investment. I bought one recently for $300 I think.
I can't say I agree with altering it, there's far more accurate rifles out there and that seems like what he's after.
But its his rifle!

I don't own the polish vintage of this rifle, but I've shot one on occasion. They are the nicest of the M44 carbines ever made.

Although the mods were done well, its still been Babba'd. I personally appreciate the rifles more left as is, other than functional and shooting issues.

Either way, still a nice rifle.

Very cool and tasteful mod, must be a pleasure to cycle with that bent bolt!

The wee beasty cycles much easier with this bolt. It works well with
gloves on in winter. If anyone with a good shootin' Mosin wants to
get the most accuracy from it, a Huber Concepts trigger is the 1st.
thing to install. Follow that with a good bedding and free float job,
and your off to the races.

Of course, then there's load development.
OH, the fun of it!

Hey Mr. Dilligaf,
do you have any prove to back up your claim or should we just believe you because you are Mr. Dilligaf?
Pictures of your target and information about distance etc... would be greatly appreciated.

:needPics:

I fully agree with you that the Polish M44 are the best made and finished Mosins ever produced.
Therefore I think it is prudent and smart to leave them as they are!
If you want a cheap rifle
which groups well, buy a Savage package gun, available from Epps for $320.00 with scope.

I got all the proof I need with all my shootin' buddies witnessing the groups
being shot @ 100 & 200 yds. The guys and gals who try out this rifle from the
bench agree on its' performance.

Any toad can fake a picture.

ZYNJANTHOPUS!

it's Zinjanthropus, at least try to get your spelling right.

I guess with Zinjanthropus you are refering to yourself, right?

your rifle looks great, removing the bayonet really helps the look and handling of these rifles. I did my bolt handle the same way. here is one more thing; I polished the engagement surfaces between the bolt parts and also the cocking ramp for my rifle this made a huge difference. again nice work
