ACR: First Impressions

You do have 30 days to report a barrel change, even when it changes the classification to restricted, but you can't use the rifle during this time. You can just have it at your house, , laying in your safe, doing nothing.

Almost forgot. Congats Blaxsun and thanks for the review. That's a nice rifle. Looking forward to more info on these.

Sweet looking rifle Blaxsun! Nice choice of optics as well, did that have the RMR as well?

I still like my XCR too though. Call me sentimental but it was my first black rifle!

In my opinion, the option of having it non-restricted is worth the extra money for sure. In a few weeks when everyone takes delivery of their ACRs we need to start a pic thread!

Why not just take the barrel parts to a local machinist and have him duplicate them. I know companies like Questar can't do this. But shrubmaster isn't going to know or care what I've done privately with my rifle. Besides having a shorter "Range" barrel and a longer "Bush" barrel would definitely add some value to the platform. Plus these units look waaay ###ier with a shorty barrel...

Jus sayin'

Glad to see the AR15 is going the way of the dinosaurs.

Nice gun. Thanks for review.

..... With the heavy profile barrel I was expecting it to be front heavy, but was surprised to find that it was actually well-balanced (not like an MR223).....
Heavy profile? That looks to me more like pencil profile.

Great review, I really want the folding stock for mine but $400+ is hard to justify...I think?

Acr

Nice looking rifle Blaxsun
I find it quite laughable that everybody has a h@rd-on for this rifle with its polymer reciever...especially after all the flogging of any AR platform sporting the same polymer composite.

As for comparing it to the XCR...well no sense in going there as it only compares to a.223 VZ

Anyway nice rifle, and to each their own shoot what you want/like

What calibers are available for the ACR in its non restricted form? Can you hunt with it?

The appeal of black rifles like the XCR and RFB for me is that you can hunt with them. The XCR-L is available in .223 Rem, 6.8 SPC, and 7.62x39mm. The XCR-M and RCB are .308 Win.

I think you mean RFB....

Rifle
Forward ejecting
Bullpup

The ACR is 5.56, and you can hunt with anything non- restricted ...

In my mind, ACR has very little street credit because all the cool people are fighting to stomp on the brand name bushmaster. They should just drop the brand name bushmaster and make everything under the Remington brand.

People value magpul's brand, but they see bushmaster as a K-Mart brand. If they put Magpul's name on the ACR, lots of people probably think 2500 is not a big deal. however, no one is going to pay 2500 bucks for K-Mart branded product even if it is designed by Gucci. Bushmaster mistaken thought that they are the "Target" of the gun world.

They will do 10X better just by changing the brand - they will do 20X better if they ditch that ridiculous M4 profile barrel for a light weight profile like SCAR. They will do 30X if they start simplifying the QD mech and figuring why they need a piston rod guide in the mid section of the barrel.

The dream for a new US carbine is dead - there is no money for it. Even if it happens, I doubt it can beat(and I do not believe it can) HK416, SCAR or the Beretta AR160...or even the GD XM8.

The problem is Remington as a whole has issues, given they have come a long way in the last 5 years but still taking on a new ground up project like this is something that takes time. They need to address the issue of weight in the upper, short handguards and some other issues before I'll pull the trigger.

When Magpul first introduced the concept I was really impressed but so far its been a bit of a commercial flop. Certainly a good candidate for study by an MBA.

+1 on the branding/marketing. If this was being sold as a Remington ACR or Magpul ACR, different story entirely... (easily half the gun is Magpul anyway).

My money's on the Beretta AR160.

I have a folding stock for the ACR, only logo I could find on it was Magpul's.

Doesn't even really say Bushmaster on it, either (just BCI and BACR).
