SVT 40-Awesome gun, what a surprise!

Does anyone know how to adjust the height of the front sight? Is it possible without the SVT tool? Does the SVT tool have the ability to change the front sight height?

No the only way is to find a little tubing that shink with heat to make electrical connection and put a little piece of the right size an heat it, after that you cut it until you get the bulleye position, work very good when it cool down ,its harden... JP.

This can't be the best way. The front sight post screws up and down, I need to screw it down further so its lower , but dont have a wrench that will fit inside the sight hood.

Reading this thread motivated me to dig out my SVT40 and try it out. I also took along my MN M44 (also a rifle I have never shot) and my MN Sniper (which makes me smile every time I shoot it. I used Russian surplus ammo.

The SVT make a lot of noise and kicks harder than the bolt rifle. ?? It has a brake. No??

Accuracy was fair. 4.7" ay 100 yards. My old eyes do not handle open sights very well. I am sure this particular rifle could shoot groups an inch or more smaller with better eyes.

The M44 also ahd open sights and an even shorter sight radius, so the 5.2" group was more me than the rifle, I am sure.

The MN Sniper did much better, the 3X scope was wonderful. 2.1" at 100 yards.

As for sight adjusting tools, the SKS tool screws the post in or out just fine, but the shape of the hood interfers with side to side adjustment. I used a Brownells sight pusher to do the job, but that did not fit well either.
