Unfortunately I only get 1 week for my bear hunt altho I may be sick a few days prior to my week off cough cough. That doesn't give me much time to set up a bait and get them coming in. So to you I ask whoes doing it right what is the best ingredient to get them coming in fast. I have frozen fish. Rolled oats. Deep fryer grease. Popcorn dogfood. Oatmeal. Molasses. And chocolate syrup. Anything else I should add?

I was planning to bait and hunt this fall but eastern Manitoba where my baits are situated has been closed down to all back country travel. Season opens in less than 2 weeks and the extended forecast doesn't look good as far as rain goes. They're predicting more hot,dry weather so it doesn't look like I'll be able to bait. Have to wait for next spring I guess. Hope the weather helps out before deer muzzleloading season opens the beginning of October.

Last fall I used plain old oats. On my trail cam I had a huge cinnamon and a huge black coming in but they never came in while I was in the stand:mad:

Maybe this fall.

We started baiting last week for September 6th opener in the area that we hunt. We hung some rotten fish guts in sacks at each of 5 bait sites and put rolls and bread etc in the barrels. Within 4 days all 5 baits had been hit and cleaned out. Next weekend we are gonna pour fryer grease all around the baits but so far things are looking good.

I go up the 9th if I can sneak outa work and have to be on the line for 3pm the 19th. I'm hoping to take both a black bear and wolf. The wolf I know will be easy they're all over there.

Meat scraps....That is the very best to hold big bears where you hunt bar none.

I'm not sure its legal to spill grease on crown land...I know a guy down the road who owns a chip truck has to pay to get rid of it. He did put in on his laneway but the ministry of enviroment put a stop to that. Pretty sure there is strict regulations on disposal of fryer grease.

I buy feed grade mollases in 5 gallon pail from feed store in Thunder Bay and 2 bags of whole kernel corn. Total cost was $50.31 Take 18kg Ole Roy dog food cost is $18 from Wall-Mart. In big wash tub mix corn and dog-food with about a gallon of blackstrap mollases. Save rest of mollases for making Rum.

Friday August 12th take half 5-gallon pail full of mixture and throw on ground and scatter out some left-over food scraps and fish cleanings. Gotta get the birds coming in.
Repeat on Saturday and leave about a quarter pail upside down with heavy rock on top. Did this with 3 bait stands. Repeat on Sunday. Season opens on Monday. Fish all day on Monday with client and take him to bait stand after supper. He sticks arrow in bear about 9PM--Damn deer hunters shoot to far forward all the time. Put dogs on blood trail Tuesday morning --dogs run all day and night. Walk in and get dogs Wednesday afternoon. Bear bayed in rock pile too far in bush to get the fat-assed client in there. Client sat on bait no2 Wednesday nite--no show. Client kills 350lber on no2 bait on Thursday nite. Client shoots bear in neck while aiming for heart. Crossbows suck--client got lucky.
I been doing this for 30 years--I think its time I retired.

My crossbow is very accurate your client must not be a good shot sorry to hear about your troubles. How much do you charge for a guided bear hunt. I like to hunt different areas every year or so. Pm me if you'd like thanks

I started last week Monday and got a phone call yesterday from the helper that they are smashed and one 45 gal drum was ripped off the chain again.
I still have two more baits to put up tomorrow and top up of all other 8 baits.

I also have one opening in Bracebridge if anyone is interested for the 6th of Sept.
