Hey Guys,

Just testing the water to see how much interest there would be in a Cowboy style zombie match in Ontario. I was thinking about a Cowboys and Aliens match what with the recent movie. There's no reason we couldn't have Alien Zombies now is there.

Some initial thoughts:

1) It would be under SASS guidelines for the most part with regards to the rules and firearms and match procedures.
2) Would likely remove the rule about lead ammo only if a stage or two are inside.
3) Majority would be steel targets, so no need for "patchers". Probably use some of those zombie targets (that you can see the hit on) stuck to the steel, so spotters will still be able to hear the hits too.
4) Probably 4 to 6 stages.
5) The match would flow very well like a cowboy match and could have multiple posses.
6) Would still dress in cowboy garb.
7) Would be able to shoot in in all SASS categories, including Wildbunch with a 1911 (so as to welcome IPSC and IDPA guys in (still only 5 rounds a mag though)).
8) I would like to include a portion with some longer range shooting using firearms akin to the period. So single shot 45/70, 30-30's etc.. This would be part of a stage. So that stage would use many guns a) match revolvers, or 1911, match pistol caliber rifle, shotgun, and long range gun.

Questions, comments, concerns, general feedback?

Let me know your thoughts.

You really need to see the movie "Cowboys and Zombies" that just came out. It is low budget but very entertaining.

Surely. Would probably steal some lines from it too. Looking for a source for barrels too (cheap or free).

That's OK. We'll just make it one big long multiple reload, fight your way to the next longgun, shoot everything that moves stage. You just can't take chances with Zombie/Aliens. I should probably load up some garlic & silver bullets just in case. Let me know where and when.

Where in Ontario would it be?

In all likelihood at the Barrie club. Just gauging interest right now. There seems to be some definitely among the group there I have spoken with.

There's not much time left this year, since a lot of them go south in September/October for USA matches, then we have the Evil Roy school in October. So there's not a lot of time to have it outside this year and I think inside wouldn't be very fun.

Next July we are hosting the Canadian Central SASS Championships which is a three day match, so maybe April or May?

I would want this match to be excellent like the EESA one was so a lot of planning is welcomed.

Hey Stormy,

Yes lines and scenes are very big in SASS already, going to adapt it over to the Zombie Alien theme. Getting some of those Zombie sticky targets from Brownells to put on our steal (unless there is a cheaper source in Canada). It will probably be a 4 or 5 stage match. I want one stage to be on the range with the long range portion too, that way we can do pistol (or two revolvers), match rifle, shotgun, then the longer range rifle likely last, in 45/70 or 30/30. Since we are not having our annual match this year because we are hosting the big championships in July, we are looking to do this match in March or April. It would be got as we could also try out some of our new props at this match. It would be a really neat way to bring the IPSC, IDPA, PPC and Cowboys together for a fun shoot.

2 six guns and then an AR-15 sooooo wrong...... Like putting a red dot on a lever action.

Wrong doesn't mean it wouldn't be so damn fun you'd have to do it again and again.
