So I was in the process of my cosmoline removal from my sks, I put all metal parts in some boiling water, it helped, dried them then blasted them with G96 Crud Buster.... The Crud Buster removed ALL of the cosmoline... and I mean ALL of it.

The gun is one of the Marstar Chinese SKS rifles.

One problem, whilst boiling I noticed part of the under side of the receiver turn a reddish rust color.

After apply crud buster when I wipe it down with some bounty the color transfers to the paper towel but it doesn't seem to leave the receiver.

Heres a pic.

Is this actual rust? or just some stubborn cosmoline, or something else. Should I be worried?

I haven't done the barrel yet so I'm not sure if any of this stuff is there.

Don't lose any sleep over it. Clean it, apply some oil, CLP, whatever, wipe it down to leave a film, and get out to the range. Now if you are shooting corrosive primed ammunition, clean it after every use.

X2, no biggie if you just have a few traces of surface rust...the bore will be ok, because it is chrome lined.

A little rust here and there is nothing to worry about... it could be seepage of old rust or cosmo from some where you cant see?.

Just do the best you can to clean and oil under every nook and cranny, and make sure you shoot lots of rounds to get the bugs out.:)

The more you shoot, the happier you and the rifle will be, and thats all that matters.:D

Alright well I noticed some more of this surface "rust" around the rifle but I'm a little tired to deal with it as it seems to be more of a mental issue for me rather than physical for the gun. I have a new stock coming in Ill try to have another go at cleaning it off when I install it.

The bore is shiny as can be so I'm good there. Off to the range on Saturday.

Thanks for the help.
