It seems to me every one and their dog seem to own a lee enfield or know some one who does. I've personally seen I handful of sporterized rifles. Few were in good condition and some looked like they should be kept from public eye. But I've seen one that caught my eye. It looked almost like a jungle carbine stock, but was a bit longer with a no4 mark1 action. I intend to cast aside my ATI stock for a wood stock. I was hoping CGNer's would share they're pics or stories of the sporterized enfields.

I posted this with intent to see some nice work and here some stories of sporterized lee enfields that have been customized. Not to affend anyone in the milsurp forum. obviously I have erred in doing do. plz either move the tread to sporting rifles and hunting or delete it. Do what you see fit. Thank you.

Wow...prepare yourself...
The only thing that hits a Milsurp nerve harder is...Wandering zero on No.5's
I made that mistake shortly after starting frequenting this forum...not good, LOL.
Do yourself a favor and never click on this thread again, odds are, it's gonna get ugly.:)
Personally...good gun's; not worthy of worship, but can hold their own with run-of-the-mill Mauser's & Mosin's. Probably Springfield's too.

I have several bubba'd milsurps from nice to awful, but I agree - the place for this thread is either in "Hunting" or "Gunsmithing" IMO.

Some would want to turn this into a Human Rights case, and it is your property to do with as you see fit, but the thread just doesn't belong here (in Milsurps).

wow i can feel the love lmfao. okay how do you close a thread, I have obviously put this thread in the wrong catagory. IMO if you don't like the thread don't post in it. Thanks

It's your property and you are free to do what you like with it, the opinions and sensitivities of others be damned.

I've been playing with a wide variety of MILSURPs for 50 years and have owned quite a few of them in pristine original condition. I've restored/refurbished/rebuilt them to as issued configuration and I've also sporterized all of a No5 LE, a No4 LE, a M98 Mauser and a M1903 Springfield which have gotten me some fine game animals over the years.

Nowadays the economics just aren't in it to sporterize a military rifle like a Lee-Enfield, Mauser, M1903 Springfield or Model 1917 Enfield. First there is the cost of the rifle itself. When you roll in the costs of cutting and re-crowning a barrel, refinishing the metal, buying a sporter stock, drilling and tapping for scope mounts, modifying a bolt handle and getting a custom safety and maybe an aftermarket trigger you are well beyond the price of a good off the shelf commercial sporter. Years ago you could get a sound No4 LE for $18-$20 and a gunsmith's shop time was cheap. It was the way to go for a lot of folks when a Model 70 Winchester of Model 99 Savage were priced well beyond this. The only way it would make sense today is to start with a partially modified, unrestorable MILSURP and then go from there.

I doubt that there are many people who would do this anymore, simply from a financial point of view.

I used my SMLE as a paddle once on a canoe/hunting trip when the real paddle broke. I oiled it real good after. Am I going to hell?

Too late. Some sins are considered unforgivable on CGN.

"An incredibly detailed replica of a Lee Enfield rifle has been given a more peaceful purpose as a floor lamp."

Has anyone contacted them to see if their made of plastic?
It would be a hellofa better idea to make'em out of plastic.
No need to kill a real one and you could hang them anywhere without rust problem's.

If it's a replica and that price, I can only imagine they're custom building it. Wonder if their wood supplier can be found? :D

I've got the feathers. Could someone heat the tar:)

Wouldn't BLO be more appropriate?

OP, since this went so badly wrong (not surprising in the Milsurp forum), here is one pic of a Parker Hale Supreme No.4 sporter I bought this summer. With any luck it will fill a deer tag this fall.

I tried both Winchester Super-X and Federal blue box ammo. True to my past experience, the Winchester was OK at best and the Federal was excellent. The initial 3 shot group with the Federal, just to see if it was on paper at 100yds. It measured 1.25":

Followed by a 5 shot group to confirm the first wasn't a fluke. It measured 1.88":

All shot using the ladder aperture sight at 100yds off a front rest and rear bag. Looks like the Federal will be going with me in pursuit of Bambi this year.
