Few questions about Desert Eagle..

Hi. I'm thinking to get a desert eagle pistol, and I don't know much about it.
Could you tell me why I should or should not buy this gun. What are the issues you guys are having with it? What caliber is most accurate and enjoyable out of 3 it comes in? What shold i be aware of if buying a used one?And so on...
 
I love mine it's in .50ae, little pricey to shoot often if you don't reload. I find it's a filthy pistol after even 20 rnds so always a need to clean after every range trip.
extremely accurate! The correct shooting stance and grip really helps if you don't want to be pegged in the forehead with spent cases.
I'd say get one in either a bling'd out shiny finish or the black oxide finish because mine is in a matte chrome and it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean :)
I'll never get rid of it, that's for sure!

If you plan on shooting it, I would STRONGLY recommend holding one before buying one. As the previous owner of a Mark 23 (a big gun), I thought of buying one for the "cool factor". I picked one up at the Shot Show and realized what a monster it is. I don't have the biggest hands, and the DE was just plain uncomfortable to get a good grip on, and that's without actually shooting it and having to contend with recoil. I decided that the ergonomics just weren't right for me, and I didn't buy it. I'm thankful that I had an opportunity to hold it before buying one, otherwise it would have ended up on the EE for sale.

If you want one as a conversation piece, or a safe queen, then buy it.
 
Thanks for the tips, I guess it works the best in .50 cal, I hear that .357 magnum is not powerful enough to provide flawless function.. Hmmm. How much is .50 AE ammo?

I'm 6'1 and have pretty big hands, I think I might be ok with the grip..
 
I think the .50 AE would be the way to go in spite of the price of ammo just for the macho factor attached. It is one of those holy grails of guns in my mind.
 
You could always buy a new one:
50AE $1875@ Badger or
44 Mag $1800@Williams Arms
If you don't like it, put it on E.E., and make a few bucks.
 
I have it in .44 Mag. I have not had any issues with ammo or cycling. There were issues with older mags but all seems well now. It is big and it really fills your hands but it is sooo fun to shoot. My favourite load is with a 210gr bullet.... what a flash!!

Also remember to get it in gold tiger stripe. It deserves nothing less than the classiest of finishes. :p

This gun is best shot using a one handed fully extended arm with a horizontal grip while flailing the other hand around wildly and making rude comments about a persons mother. ;)
 
i have real hard time deciding between brushed chrome or bright nickel, or maybe be practical and go with a black finish..:confused:

love it! So sad but some many people probably think that that is proper firearms handling....

I had a chance to fondle a 44 DE and as others have said a handful but I found it to be a very comfortable handful. Not bulky but filling.
