270 win. ammo for moose

Federal 150gr Partition

Consider Federal 150gr Partition, effective up to 150-200 yards on moose.
Highly recommended by a professional hunting guide at my hunter and anglers club.
This particular load has bagged 28 mooses for his costumer but shots should be limited to 150-200 yards since they also lost 3 mooses.

Look at the Federal Premium line. You could probably get by with a standard 150 grain sp, and many have over the years. However with modern ammunition with the best bullets ever designed available to you now, spend the extra money. :)

Winchester makes the CXP3's...which are also a great factory moose load. Same principal as the Accubond...2 stage expansion...meant for heavy boned and thick skinned animals!!

We're going to Cape Breton in October....I'll be using a box of older bullets in my 270....they're 140 grainers. ...they're Winchester FailSafes but they are now discontinued. They're very similar to the Nosler partition bullet!....Good luck!

I saw one moose hit behind the shoulder with one shot from a 270 with regular factory 130 gr ammunition, and he took one step, staggered ,tried to get up and went down and didn;t get up again. The distance was probably about 75 yards, slightly downhill and the moose was quartering away from us.

Federal has lots that apply to Moose. Any TSX, Partition, Accubond, TTBC, or the Fusion ammo is great too.
Winchester has Accubond, XP3 and Remington has the Swift bullets and Core-lokt Ultra.
Any of the above will kill moose cleanly. Dare I say well past 200yds. Their lungs aren't concrete.

This load will do the trick, but you can add to the range estimates as long as you wait for the proper shot, i have seen moose dropped at over 400 yds with this load.

I use Nosler AB 140gr in .270 (hand load) and I can tell you it will blow chunks of lung 10 feet out the far side of a moose at 50 yards. I would see if you can find any premium bullets listed for moose by the manufacturer.

I would avoid a shoulder shot (bone) with a .270 regardless of your bullet choice. You just need something tough enough to penetrate thicker skin, ribs etc. and get into the vitals. They really are not that hard to kill.

Yeah Winchester do the Supreme Accubonds, 140gr, I would suggest them or Partition Gold 150gr if your gun likes it, My Rem700 doesnt... Accubonds on the other hand have decked a few sambar deer..
I wouldnt expect pass thru penetration, but put it behind the shoulder an it wont get far, dead on its feet.

Dropped lots with Hornady 130gr including one cow at 600 yards .One in the heart and the second hit four inches higher..........walked 50 yards and fell over..................Harold..................when I had 18 year old eyes bullet drop one door in height.
