Hey all,

Decided that I didn't want to drop my 40y.o remmy 1100 in the water so I decided to buy a new Remington 870 supermag to take out instead. I know that the 870 family is tried and tested but I was just wondering if there are little things about the newer models that I should know.

Thanks!

buy lots of ammo, cause its fun! :D (from another new member of the 870 family.) Also, nice location PM me if you ever want to go on a joint shooting venture (got access to over 120 acres ;) )

You *may* have issues cycling, or ejecting spent hulls, particularly from lighter shells. Of late the 870 3.5" guns have had some issues. I believe the issues is the chamber isnt properly finished.

But then again you may be fine. Try em out and have some fun!

X2. On the supermags pump them like you hate them and they will eventually get a little smoother to pump.

yeah if it's the duckblind camo one I can give you a few points. If you're like me a shoot skeet like it's no body's business you'll want to go buy a NON-mim (metal injected Molding) extracter. After the 2nd year with my 870 my extractor didn't want to extract those cheap federal target loads. You know the ones you buy by the case and not the box.
I replaced my plastic follower in the magazine tube with a aluminum one. I only had a problem with it once. Gummed up from something. I'm not sure what.

Also I notice something that still bothers me to this day is my rem choke Says OverDecoys extended Modified (the one that came with the gun) .006 and the rem choke imp. cyl. i bought is measured .010.

I thought it was a typo, but the Imp cyl. is giving me better patterns at greater distances.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a Modified choke should measure .02 and give me better results than a Imp. Cyl.

Also buy 2 zip freezer bags, it's a very effective gun.

It has been my experience that choke tubes and barrels don't always pattern as marked. You have to pattern the size and type of shot (steel, hevi-shot, etc.) at the distances you usually shoot. No other way around it.
