It is a Weatherby Accumark 340 with excellent Weaver type steel bases (loctited and NOT moving at all)

The scope is a Leupold 3.4-14 VX7, 30 mm tube.

The rings are Leupold - 4 screw rings. I have NOT lapped same but they appear true. The screws are blue loctited and very snug.

All have been degreased several times.

It is a big scope and it does slide slowly (forward) in the rings.

I wondered about rosin under the rings -- or will some loctite under the rings help or hurt or make just a mess?

What about a piece of the "tape" that comes with Burris rings to put between the ring and scope body?

A third "stopper" ring in front of the front ring?

any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would try lapping the rings myself, and adding some rosin. And I would not use any loctite on the rings, it isn't necessary, it just makes them harder to remove.

farshot,

I have a set of Leupold extreme-recoil rings that I will send you. They will solve your problem quickly!

They were originally designed for heavy handgun scopes, and work great on rifles, too. Not a whimper on my 375 Weatherby! :)

Thanks Ted, but this rifle has the weaver / picatinny style mount that I prefer to stick with -- thank so much anyway --

I have those rings on another monster I have -- that is what I was thinking about with this scope. Maybe just put a 30mm ring (without a base on it) before / after the front ring
.. first the rosin
then loctite LOL
then a third ring

I wish Burris would make their Signature line more beefy - heavier cross bolt and 4 cap screws. I love their rings otherwise.

I had the same problems on my 444P. Have a 1.5-5 Leupold on it, and ended up switching to the Burris.

Another sweet ring/mount is from Near. Their Alpha Mount is amazing. A bit pricey though...

You sure that's not a 34mm tube on the 3.5-14 VX7 ? The 34mm VX7's come with the Leupold PRW rings you mention. They're OK, but not great.
You could probably find some pretty good tactical rings as others have mentioned. Blue Loctite wouldn't hurt either.

I agree 100%. Give us a 10-32 crossbolt with a torx head, beefy heavy-duty quality, but still use the inserts for no scope-marring and 20 MOA of easy shimming.

Use spray on hi tack gasket compound, give the rings a light coating inside snug up the scope and let sit for a half hour. Your scope will NOT move again, but will come off with ease later if you loosen the screws and give it a shot of brakekleen

bearkilr - you are correct! they are 34 mm
Im getting too old - sigh
The hi-tac gasket compound is a good thought

No kidding.
When my Elite came back from Bushnell, I wanted to change the rings on the old gal....308 Norma Mag and I bought a set of these. I put them on and took them off shaking my head. Stuck the old brutes back on and didn't like it either. Back on go the Burris. Made a couple of calls and was assured they
are good. They look good, I sure hope they don't come loose.
Time will tell. I think the X-Bolt set up is good.
Cheers.
Looky.

I once used a string of white plumbers seal tape, worked fine, comes off easy. Might have been a red green fix, or bubba, but it worked when its all that was handy.

Just for an update - I tried the hi-tac gasket compound on the inside of the rings - i think I found a new standard operating procedure!!!!

Nothing budged on my 340 weatherby, 8x68S or 6.5x54MS!!!!!

thank you
