Well I have only hunting rifles so decided to build a budget bench gun for a new toy. Its a used Kelbly stock that I found for 110 bucks and a new Remington SPS action (not blue printed), and a lightly used Lilja barrel (with the wrong twist 1in12, was probably supposed to be a 6ppc) and a cheap 8-40x56 Tasco custom shop scope.

Here is my first shot at longer range, it's 460yards because thats all the room we had. Four shots in 1" and 5 in 2.5"......not to bad. Load is 30gr of IMR8208XBR behind 75gr v-max in Lapua brass with Remington 7 1/2 primers.

That was just fun!

Thanks, as soon as the barrel wears out I'll order a Krieger 1in9 from Ian. And of course I am going to upgrade the scope and probably eventually the trigger.

Ok I gotta get some info. Why is everyone using 6mm for targets? Why are they better? What is the difference between a 6br, 6xc, 6ppc etc etc. haha I am confused.

6ppc has a little less case capacity and is the dominant cartridge at 100 and 200 yards. The 6br tends to dominate the 400 and 600 yard. The 6xc is just smaller than the 243 because they use 22-250 brass as starter brass to form. For 1000yard 6.5 284 seems to be the big dog.

Here is the link to some good info.

As far as 6mm bullets are concerned I think it has to do with a good ballistic bullet pushed at a decent speed with as little recoil as possible. So if you get a good ballistic bullet in say a 30 cal that will buck the wind well and still push it to sufficient speed its gonna kick and you won't want to a 20 round relay (or at least not well).

Not an expert but hope that helps.

Yup, it sure should! :D Sure is a fun toy. Hey do you remember what kind of action was in the brown benchrest stock I bought?

Thats funny LOL, I thought I still had it here, you must have taken both of them??? memory ain't what it use to be hahaha. The brown one had a sleeved remington in it that I still use for F-class.

That's funny. What kind of action was in the red one, it almost fit a remington? You should post a picture of your F-class rig now!

Funny right back at you!! you would have that barrel worn out before I figured out how to post a pic. on here! Besides my F-class rig was built for function not looks, as I don't dare build a "looker" cause I'm sure I wouldn't get it in the gun cabinet without scratching it nevermind taking it to a range. That red stock had a custom action in it that was made in the U.S. many years ago, probably a remington clone as far as dimensions.
