Ok lets start off by saying yes I am aware there is a 455 model with both calibers and yes I am aware there is a 452 varmint.

Now I just got a good deal on a 452 american 22lr. I am wondering if It is possible to swap barrels to a heavy barrel 22lr? And is it possible to switch to a 17hmr calibre? Are the bolts and receivers the same on the 22lr and 17hmr?
Any help is appreciated.
James.

How about looking for someone who may want to trade a Varmint heavy barrel for your American.

I'd be interested if your American was a 16 incher. I have a CZ452 Varmint with 19" heavy barrel in great shape. Probably some marks on the blueing under the scope mounts (if I remove them) but otherwise excellent.

We'll have two 16" americans here in a couple weeks. Likely the last two we'll get :(

The mag well is larger on the 17 rifle and the bolt is different as well.

There is great deal on a hardly fired varmint in 17HMR at P&D. I should buy it. FS

Switching to a heavy barrel on the American will not assure you of better accuracy IMHO. The balance point will change and inletting on the stock will need to be done. The general consensus amongst CZ 452 owners at RC is that any particular style or model will shoot as well as any other and its a "luck of the draw" type of thing.

I have a newer 455 Varmint TH that shot about the same as my 452 when I got it NIB. Extensive accurizing on it has made it into a tack driver now and I haven't found a 452 of any style that can match it. The bolt throw is not long enough to do the caliber switch on your 452. The 455 accomodate this with a long bolt throw and proprietary mag well that will take spacer inserts for the different calibers.
If your looking for an accuracy increase, go after the trigger, select the right ammo, tune up the screws (torque) to tighten the groups.
The alternative would be finding a 452 in .17 HMR which are very fine shooting rifles with better accuracy than the 22 WMR versions.
