Bad primers?

Was out practicing for an upcoming CAS match tonight - I load my own and use Trailboss - bottom end of the scale for powder. Had a few "poofs" where the bullet was super slow, and obviously there wasn't full ignition of all the powder in the casing.
One actually just went "pop" and the bullet lodged just inside the barrel.

I'm assuming this is a primer issue? While loading these I noticed some of the primers had some yellow residue left in the tray when I dumped them out.

Given that most of the loads ignited fine and had lots of power I'm blaming it on the primers, but if someone else out there has had issues with Trailboss powder doing this let me know...hate to have to pull all those loads!

Trail Boss is a very low density powder - the pieces are donut shaped for this purpose.

So a given weight of powder (e.g. 6 grains) will take up significantly more volume than other types of powder such as W231.

Unless the OP is loading really minimal TB loads I am wondering if this could be an issue of inconsistent powder charges including some loads that are way undercharged.

Compared to W231 I found the TB donuts are very light and sensitive to static, it is much easier to lose some especially in a progressive press (650).

As I understand it, from what I have heard, Trailboss is so light and fluffy that it does not always pour properly from a powder measure. There have been reports where only partial charges have dropped.
 
That could be too - I had actually worried about that as I left a bunch of powder in the measure for about a week before I loaded again...
