so, quick and sweet. Did my CFSC (non-restriced only) last year, got it stamped by the CFO on Dec 7th 2010. from then till now this whole thing escaped my mind completely, yes i know -_-. now that iv got some free time i printed the application forms for my PAL (non-restriced of curse) and ill fill them out today. Now the tricky bit, id rather have this thing done asap BUT in 3 weeks i will be taking a 45 day trip overseas and not returning till nov 28th ( as will one of my references and photo guarantor). It sais on this form it takes a min of 45 days to process this info, and 28 days waiting period ( as in 45+28???). since i have the course done already can i send the forms in now and be done by the time i get back or is it better to wait till i return to do it??
and yes im a huge noob. =)
i live in ontario btw.

I'm not 100% sure I understand your situation.
Are you saying you did the course, have the official results and filled out the application for your non-restricted license?
You're leaving in 3 weeks for 45 days.
If this is the case I would say that the time it takes to process an application varies greatly depending on your location within the province and how many people are applying at the time ( ie how many applications in your area they have to process, at least this is what I was told was the main reason behind the varying delays by the RCMP firearms persons) for example there are only a FEW offices in Ontario that are tasked with processing applications from MANY areas.
That being said it really is a dice toss on your behalf, if I was in your place I would mail in my application ASAP, take the trip or whatever it is and when you get back home call the RCMP firearms program toll free and inquire as to the status of your application. Actually you can speed up the process by having your references call in for you to do the preposterous "interview".
At the very worst you might just have to explain the situation but at least you might have it by the time you get back.
It can take a long time sometimes, if I remember correctly I mailed my results and application in in November and didn't actually get my Pal until February :S But I also applied for restricted as well.

Yeah you might as well fill it out now and send it. Also, it should be just 45 days, not 45+28.

From the CFP website "Our service standards to process a complete and accurate application are 45 days, including the 28-day legislated waiting period"

The OP is applying for non-restricted. No interviews unless under special circumstances.
And the reason why yours took so long was because you were right- you had applyed for your restricted at the same time.

"...send the forms in now..." If you do(no reason not to, but you have to think like a civil servant) make sure everything in the application is right. If they have to contact you for some reason, you not being there will confuse them and the whole thing will stop.
You may want to find another reference too. Their not being able to contact one will stop it too.
