SkS or mosin nagant which one 1st

One factor to keep in mind is how new you are to shooting. If you're just getting started, I'd go with the Mosin. Easier to learn good technique with it, less temptation to blast away (although with the 5-round limit it's a lot less fun than it used to be:puke:) Same reason my old man started me out hunting with a single shot - not just for safety reasons, but to make sure I mastered marksmanship before moving on to repeaters.

A have a shotgun, and a p226. This will be my first rifle. The more that I think about it the more I want two. One to keep historic in everyway, and one to bubba with a decent modern scope.

I would probably go for the SKS as it is more versatile and easier to shoot. It is more versatile in the sense that you can choose between blasting away and slower, more focused, longer range shooting and it is easier to shoot in that you don't have so much recoil to deal with. Also ammo is cheaper for the SKS(for now anyway). That being said the Mosin has its advantages, it is capable of more precise shooting than an SKS(although they are both milsurps so I would not expect anything amazing from either) and can reach out to considerably longer ranges(which is only valuable if you have a interest and opportunity to do that). Just my opinion i guess.

you can do both with one rifle. there are no drill and tap scout mounts that go on the rear sight mount. for a good strong drill and tap mount there is only one choice for modern mounts rocksolid industries. or go over to accumounts they have repro mounts that go on a pu (sniper rifle) base that take modern scopes. westrifle has repro pu sopes with mounts and he is a site sponsor and a great guy to boot.

Good to know, that is where I was planning on buying them from. Thanks for the info.
