#1 Bear Baiting Trick

Fryer grease works great for me. Sweet feed for cattle and add an extra quart of mollasses on top works well also.
Do not and I mean do not use Tim Horton dougnuts in your bait pile. It seems to attract too many police officers and game wardens. Just kidding!!!

I just made my run to walmart for baiting supplies. Dog food, molasses, corn syrup, popcorn and I also mix in my old deep fryer oil and some whole corn from a local farmer. Hope it works this season.....

I just went out and bought a litte single burner beutane stove yesterday to try a honey burn. I have been wanting to try it for a long time....this year I'm gonna try i t out.

I'm in the same boat, I always plan on doing one but then never get around to i when it's time to hunt... Where did you get the stove?

match whatevers in season. by that i mean if the apples are on in your area, load your bait with apples and mollasses, if any berries are on, round up as many as you can and smear them everywhere at your bait.once it gets later in the season and the natural foods start dying off, the pressure is on for the bears to load up on as much fat as possible before they're off to bed for winter. this is when you start really putting out the meat scraps and doughnuts, etc.. we pour grease all season long always have. as far as bringing them in bearbomb only works if you use the whole can and leave it at the bait. but like posted previously scent/wind is everything. if the wind's not in your favour, its not in your favour. some of our baits we put up two or three blinds/stands, so we can counter the wind.

hey guys new to the hunt this year and i think i have all your suggestions to bring in that big bear. but what is ANISE mentioned in a couple of threads.

It's actually a flowering plant. The smell from it is like black licorice. A very strong black bear attractant. (or so i've read). Problem is it's expensive. I boiled a bunch of black licorice for about 15 minutes and then bottled the water/juice in a spray bottle...

If you get the pure Anise Oil extract, then yes. However, a company in Wisconsin called "bearscents" makes all kinds of synthetic scents including Anise. Works great and only costs about $20 for a 1L spray bottle. They ship to Canada.

Another alternative is to find a wholesale baking goods supplier and get it from them.

Just go to the Bulk Barn stores ,its $2.99 for a small bottle and you only need about 1/4 to a spray bottle. Don't head to the Gravenhurst store tho as I bought it all the other day ;)

some great ideas boyz,

I've never in all the years of baiting did a Honey burn, can some of you guys that have had it work explain how you do it and what do you use ?

I hate to burn down the woods

I did this as well.. I don't know what bottles you bought but the ones my local bulk barn had were tiny. Bought two at $1.79 each. Thought I was wasting money as they were so small but had to give them a try.
I poured both tiny bottles into a spray bottle and filled the rest with water..
shock it up and sprayed a little bit on a piece of paper towel. Had a really strong ANISE smell to it.

Went back into my equipment room about 5 hours later and could still smell the ANISE.. Amazingly strong stuff.. The way to go in my books.
