I know about Waiporous. I am looking for a place to shoot my non-restricted rifle. There is a lot of land to the east that is barren and not in use. Is any of that crown land?
To my knowledge, you need an ATT before taking a restricted firearm anywhere. I would find it difficult to acquire an authorization for this purpose, as crown land would be quite the ambiguous destination point. You can't fire a restricted firearm on crown land right? Is the indoor ranges the only place you can? Thanks.
Thanks for the info! I would rather shoot outdoors than an indoor range.
bump
Bumping this old thread. I need a place to go test fire a musket.
If you go south of Black Diamond you get to the Porcupine hills which is crown land. Also west of Longveiw and then south on the Forestry trunk road will get you to lots of open Crown land. You will find a big gravel pit down that way and just off the road in places is a few open clearings with hills to the west of them.
Bump. Just wasted my morning driving to the Sibbald Creek range. So I get up the road and to my right is a gate, some Bench something or other Rosebud I think it said, and a closed sign, and just a bit further up to my left is a small parking lot looking area littered with shotgun shells and a car door. Wtf?? I wanted to shoot my Mosin at 100 yds maybe more. Where the f*** is a decent outdoor range not hours away from Calgary? I go alone all the time like every other f'n hobby and sport I do so I'm not into driving halfway to Radium to squeeze off a couple hundred rounds... anything?
Keep driving past the SG range. Another few hundred feet and it ends in a parking lot. Walk through the gate and up the gravel trail and you arrive at the public range. Blast away just remember to toss your targets in the garbage bins provided and collect your brass.![]()
Thanks for the info
That range was closed by RCMP for safety concerns.
