Possible contaminated powder

I bought some bulk H322 from an individual where it was re-containered in a former IMR 700X container. When you look at the powder things look fine but when your eyes focus better you see the odd flake of 700X ie approx 20 flakes per 1/4 pound. I could spend the time to seive though it but if I choose not to, is this a big issue?? Thanks

Load it up and shoot it. You won't notice any difference. The amount you're worried about is miniscule.

I would at least make sure it was well mixed.
You don't want to find a higher concentration in there somewhere.

Was it commercially purchased? Repackaging powder is actually against the law unless done by a permitted business. At least according to the explosives guy I talked to a few years ago. But putting it in a used container of a different type is a bit strange.

I think you know what the correct answer is. Yes it sucks but if mine it would be properly disposed of.I even have a seperate plastic powder bottle for the Mec loaders for each powder I use and won't even mix it there.

As the manufacturer's say Store powders in its original container, label powders correctly, DISCARD powders that are old or of unknown origin. DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT POWDERS IN SAME CONTAINER!!

Do you also have differant powder measures for your rifle and handgun powders? Unless you wash it out every time you change powders, you are bound to get a flake or two caught in the measure. I would use the powder, although if it had any more than you described, I would toss it. It's really a matter of jugment and your comfort zone. Is it worth 25 bucks or so if you are going to worry about it and wear your welding helmet when you are firing the gun?

use it, but work up a load properly, i would think of it as a slightly different version of H322

When in doubt dump it. Attempting to visually determining the amount of contamination with what you must agree is an unknown powder, is a crap shoot. We're talking about a few dollars worth of powder, against the cost of your gun and the possibility, albeit slight, of personal injury.

Thats not even enough to get one flake per 20 rounds loaded
I'd load a couple rounds at starting load & check velocity!
Actually the only reason I'd do that is to check the powder as a whole & make sure it's H322.

At that ratio you won't even know its in there. Work up your load as normal and carry on.

If it is at all suspect it should be disposed of. Using it is most likely going to end badly.Is $100 worth of bad powder worth loosing a finger, an eye or worse????

I surprised at the amount of posters encouraging this guy to use it...
Honestly, a little disapointing.
I haven't personally inspected the situation so I can only encourage one thing.
Like week old left overs in the fridge; when in doubt through it out.
Higher concentrations may be lurking in it plus many powders look similar; how can you be 100% sure a third powder isn't in the mix?

I'm surprised at the amount of people who think that 80 flakes in a pound of powder is going to have any effect at all. If you were loading .308 for example that would equal 1 flake like every 2 or so rounds. Take that to a .223 and you can almost double that number. Come on guys use your common sense!

Fire a couple at starting load, check velocity against book to verify the powder is what was stated.
Seems like a couple flakes were stuck on inside of container.
You guys honestly think 1 flake every round or two is gonna make any diff
Do you count the granuals in every round?? you think one more speck of powder makes any diff!
