So I got myself the long #15 and letter P drill to clean the carbon out, as well as a letter O drill for the gas plug. I tried to insert the P drill into my norinco gas piston and it would not fit. Ended up putting 2 deep scratches into the inside of the piston. Will this piston still be okay to use? Ended up just using the O drill on both the gas plug and piston.

Does the norinco have a smaller inside diameter gas piston?

Where did you find the bits ,I have not been able to find them thanks

Tool and cutter. Look through your phone book (u still own one right) or online for any industrial tool supply company. The #15 LONG usually has to be specially ordered in but the P and O are common. The P didn't fit in my norinco piston as mentioned above so I use the O drill in the gas plug and inside the large portion of the piston.

PM powmia56 he knows excatly what parts are needed and were you can get them and yes there are 2 chambers in the M14 piston.

I'd say you definitely need more than a regular cleaning kit.

A combo tool, as suggested above, is a necessity. You will need to tighten the gas plug on occasion and clean the gas system. Combo tool is the easiest way to get that plug off and on. The combo tool will also make it easier, though not necessary, to get the trigger group out. Combo tools are still readily available in the US, not to mention that your rifle should have come with one if you bought the new Norinco (check the buttstock). I've also seen them for sale various places. About $8 each.

You will need cleaning tools for the gas system. The drill bits you need are actually #P (piston body), #15 (piston shank), and #26 (gas port). For the #15 it helps to have an extra long bit as this one has to reach down inside the piston.

A chamber brush is nice as it is hard to get in the chamber since the receiver heel is in the way. USGI chamber brushes run about $5 at the gun shows down in the US.

PS Just noticed that when Sunray referred to a "regular cleaning kit" he meant an M-14 kit, which includes the combo tool and chamber brush. That pretty much preempts my whole point :) but you'll still want the gas system bits.

All you do is order the Norseman Drill and Tool "Magnum Super Premium" drill bits "P," "O" and #15 from Fastenal. Good to go. Probably won't cost you $40. I used these on my Norc, didn't seem to have any problems.

Are you serious? You've got to use a drill to clean the carbon out? Whatever happened to cleaning the rifle after using it? Or is the drill only needed after 1000+ rounds and no cleaning?
