So I was drooling over some new firearms in the latest LeBaron catalogue and noticed the astounding price of $2100 for a Benelli Super Black Eagle II slug gun

Who would actually pay that much for a slug gun?

IMO, not worth it at all if someone is just looking to pick up a dedicated slug gun.

The Browning A-Bolt, still high priced, will be a better buy if someone is looking for a quality product.

Among the other fixed barreled specimens, the 20ga Savage 220 and the H&R USH would be very cost efficient options that would deliver similar performance.

You could have a custom gun or two made for that............just paying for the name......

Well, if as you say, you can have a custom gun made for that price, what would be the difference? A Benelli, or a Mr. Jones Custom? Quality is Quality. A Name is a Name. Just because it says Benelli doesn't make it less of a gun than a Mr. Jones Custom. Benelli's are very well made firearms.

Having said that, I have a hard time swallowing $2100 for a shotgun, slug-gun, whatever. Take $1000 off that price, and perhaps you might sell one to me.

Just sayin.

Benellis are excellent quality. I own a Super Nova, an $800 pump gun, after using it for 3 seasons hunting water fowl, deer and coyotes I would never use anything else. Makes 870 look, feel and handle like junk.

Yes they are good quality and maybe make todays 870 express feel bad but not a wingmaster especially an old one. I will put any of my 60's and 70's 870's up against a super nova for handling, feel and operation. My old 3" mag wingmaster with a new choked tube barrel is about as smooth and reliable as they come.
That being said any out of the box Browning BPS will also out perform a Nova. And yes I own more than one of each make to compare fairly. take care:D
Also a BPS or wingmaster is just a dam right a better looking gun especially in camo

The handling characteristics of a gun is subject to the owner's build and shooting form. I had a Benelli nova 3 1'2" pump. I got rid of it after 2 seasons because it did not fit me at all. Plus, believe it or not, it would not fire occassionally. Thought maybe I was short stroking it but someone else with longer arms tried it and had the same problem. Anyhow, I have an 870 wingmaster from the 80's. Because of the way it fits me, I would take it over the Benelli anyday. And it has never caused a problem. So, is one "the best in the world" over the other? I think that decision is in the eye of the beholder. Would I pay $2100.00 for a Benelli, no way. But I wouldn't pay that for a Remington either.

I looked at a slug barrel for my Beretta, but at $595, I declined, and went with a $100 barrel for my mossberg.:D

If I only hunted in a shotgun area, I would have considered it more, but I mostly hunt rifle, and the slug gun will see 1 or 2 days per year.
