How would you guys rate these Winchester Ranger 30-06? Are they more along the lines of a beginner rifle ala Stevens 200? or something a little further along. I have one which is in new condition and I am curious as to what I have. For what it's worth I haven't fired it yet. It came with a Japanese Bushnell Scopechief VI. Which I also don't have a clue about.

They are a pushfeed M70, but the only difference between them and the higher models is the plain stock, and some were blind mags. Metal wise, they are the same.

Personally, I'd sooner have the Win 70 Ranger or Win Model 670, both of which were/are econo rifles over a Stevens 200. That said, being a fan of the Stevens 200 as well, though.

Well I just finished removing the packing grease from the receiver and bolt. Man this thing is clean. I then inletted the barrel channel a little with some 220 grit sandpaper. It has probably swelled a little over time. I threw a wopping 399 shipped for the whole combo including a Levy's leather strap and a gun sock. I think I did all right ;)

now, that's a GOOD deal.....:)

Does yours have a floorplate....they were made with and without.

I bought one - as a beater. You should see the tiger stripe pattern that that showed up in the wood after I cleaned the factory finish off the stock. Very nice. ;)

Oh yeah, and it shoots real well. :)

I've got one with the floorplate. Super light and nice handling. Recoil pad is a bit of a hockey puck, but mine (dad's) shoots awesome with dirt cheap Rem/Win/Fed budget ammo. May be push-feed but still a great gun. Never a problem with ours.

$400 is market value for the package 70's-80's scope $75-$100 $300.00 for the rifle much superior to the entry level rifles on the market today. if you bought fro a dealer his cost on it would have been $250 or less,

I had one in .30-06 with a blind mag and I still have one in .270 with a hinged floor-plate. Until recently it was my goto deer rifle and it is now my back-up deer rifle. It is a pushfeed Model 70 Lightweight with a beech stock. It came with fully adjustable irons, which I've since removed. On the blind mag version I had to drift the sights to adjust for windage.

As other have said, & I agree, you did very, very well on your purchase here.

Way better than a modern econo rifle with cheap plastic stock. And the Scope Chief was/is a very good scope, too.

Congrats!

I recently scored this Win Model 670 rifle in .308 Win. Push feed with blind mag. Came with a new model Bushnell Banner D&D 4-12x40mmAO scope in Weaver mounts. And a recently professionally installed Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad:

Thanks guys! I forgot to mention that I got this from CGN from a supporting dealer.
Guns N Games. They treated me right on this! ;)

Dave....do something for me...if ya would....see if there is a small set of initials on the back of the sling(on the suede part) near the top...they'd be a K&S.....annnd...does the bolt knob have very slight traces of former rust on it ???...kinda freaking me out...I traded one in a number of years ago...identical..scope and all....there's probably thousands and thousands around...but it really jogged the old memory for a few nights :D

either way, you got a great gun...mine used to kick like a PD-OFF mule!!..;)

I checked the strap all over but no luck. The bolt handle is a little freckled tho. Just ever so slightly.
