Winchester Ranger 30-06

Your rifle has a really nice stock on it! Nice!

I stripped off the factory dark brown paint with Heirloom furniture stripper, took it down to the bare wood, then restained it with Watco dark walnut Danish oil stain. After that dried rubbed in a few coats of Howards "Feed & Wax".

When I popped over the money for my first high power, bolt action rifle it was a toss up between an Interarms MK X .270 or a Winchester Ranger Model 70 .30-06. I still remember that day, the '06 had a very blonde, almost white stock. The MK X had a floorplate, so I chose the .270. Thinking back, no matter which I would have chosen, both would have been the right choice.

I had another Ranger years ago in .270. It was when I was a poor student and I bought it for hunting season and resold it. If I had my time back I would still have it.

Going through my photobucket account and found this pic of my Ranger stock. After stripping away the factory finish, this is what I found and covered with Behr Tung Oil:

I have one in 30-06. Groups hunting ammo under 1.5".

I paid Canadian Tire $165 for it. They kept marking it down, but it was not selling. I kept an eye on it until it went uder $200.

It has a very plain stock, blind magazine. Slick action and nice trigger.

That scope is a very good scope. You got a great rifle, scope and caliber.

I had one years ago in 30-06, blind magazine. It was like new in every way with less than a box of shells through it. Probably the best shooting Winchester I ever owned too.

Lost it and a great deal more in the last poker hand I ever played.:(:bangHead:

And here I thought I'd sucessfully repressed that memory.:(
