SKS to SKS-D Conversion kit

Please forgive any error in terminology. I currently have an SKS and I would like to get a conversion kit to make take a detachable magazine. What do you guys know about those? Prices? do they work? Do they even exist?

There is no SKS to SKS-D Conversion kit. There are removable mags, commonly available.

The SKS-D is not a kit. There is a groove machined into the reciever to catch the front lip of an AK mag and a trigger group with an AK magazine release. It lacks the bolt hold open tab and is not machined to accept one. You can buy duckbill mags and if you really want there is a block you can buy and install that will let you remove most of the duckbill. You can also modify the bolt to allow magazines to be released with the bolt closed and tapco makes a bolt for this too but requires fitting.

Ok, what mods need to be done to make it take these mags? I am also looking to get a new CQB style stock, can these be combined?

The wood stocks might need a bit of trimming to work with the detachable mags, but the common synthetic stocks for the SKS work perfectly with them.

simply put just pull the Fixed box-style mag out...re-assemble the SKS and it will accept detachable mags...trimming req. for wood stocks

so if I get a aftermarket stock like this one than I will be able to stick a detachable mag in it without any mods?

yes..and technically yes with your wooden stock aswell

i sold all my SKS-D for $425 to $475 early this year .

i believe you wont save much by converting it yourself plus your converted "D" will still look like home made , it will not look like a real "D" cos carrier and mag catch still look like a standard SKS .

Negatory my SkS guru friend!
No modding required to the stock for that picture I showed earlier. You need to mod the TAPCO mags them self. Check out this page for more info located on the lower right hand side of the page;
