ordering from lee factory sales?

I am wanting to get into reloading and am looking at this kit

has anyone ordered from there before and did you have to pay a bunch of taxes at the border? if so is it still worth the discount?

also what other accessories will i need other than what comes in that kit, aside from dies.

They charge a 35% fee on top of shipping, taxes and duties. You generally don't save much from ordering from one of their dealers except time, unless the dealer has the item you want.

I got hit with duty on one of my orders
Still cheaper than buying local..not sure

Call them and the will walk you through
What else you will need there very helpfull
 
Just make darned sure that whatever you get is coming by parcel post and not by any of the courier services or you will pay a brokerage fee which will make the price of the item MUCH higher. I am in the habit of asking how the item would be shipped as my first question. If not by USPS then I'll get the item somewhere else.
 
I've ordered from them a few times with no problems. Depending on what you want, it may or my not be cheaper to get it locally (doesn't apply to me as I'm 2 hours from a gun store, but thought I'd throw it in anyways). I've always just used my PO Box for the shipping address so it's been shipped USPS and in 4 orders I've only had to pay duty(?) once.

Ya you only pay duty if it's over $200 I think(look up duty fees on gov website). Always had mine shipped to PO box and if you order enough stuff it's well worth it. Their shipping isn't cheap but the prices make up for it if you order enough stuff.

Your only supposed to pay "duty" if it's not american...or mexican made, remember the "Free Trade" deal.

if you are shipping international with them the 35% is automatic, if you ship to a US address I don't think it applies.
 
I had one shipment from Lee Factory Sales delivered to my house.

It was worth about US$160 including approx. US$20.00 shipping via USPS and I was charged a $5.00 handling fee by Canada Post (by default, USPS will use Canada Post here), and 12% HST (because I am in BC).

The $5.00 Canada Post handling fee is cheap compared to the brokerage fee that UPS slaps on top of its horrendous shipping charges.

I normally use a US shipping address, pick up the stuff when I visit whenever that may be, then bring across the border with no charges. I would stay at least two days in the US to avail of the $400 tax and duty exemption. LFS shipping via USPS is very reasonable within the USA.
 
I've ordered from there too about 6 times and there are very good to deal with. I can't speak of there delivery in Canada as I only live about a 30 min drive from the USA so I go and pick it up from there. Almost all the time the Canadian border guards don't even charge me duty so if that's an option you might want to do that.

BTW I have the same kit, works great.
 
higginson powders there on line is a lee authorized dealer he is in canada and his prices for lee stuff is the exact same as the lee website

Higginson prices are the same as the manufacturer's (Lee Products) prices.

However, Lee Factory Sales (a Lee dealer situated within a stone's throw of the factory) offers prices that are much lower than prices from the factory, Lee Products Co, itself.

The manufacturer is protecting its dealer, that is why a dealer like LFS can sell much lower than the factory.

Having said that, one should crunch numbers to see if ordering from the US is worth it. Compare total cost including shipping and taxes, between the Higginson and LFS alternatives. Forget the Lee Products Co...their prices are higher than LFS.

In my experience, buying from the US is only cheaper or worth the trouble, if you will drive across the border, pick up your stuff, then re-enter Canada without paying duties, like Katana a few posts above.
 
X2 USPS only. They calculate shipping on their website(make sure it's usps). There is no duty, just $5.00 at customs plus pst gst. I think press is good, powder measure can be adapted to powder thru expander die for pistol ammo.
 
I suggest ordering from Higginsons Powders from Ontario. They'll have everything you need and at no hassel. Prices are better as well and have dealt with them on numerous occasions with no problems and curtious , prompt service.

Just setting the record straight.

Your price, for example, for 9mm 4-die pistol set is $50.00. At the Lee Products Co (the manufacturer) same item is $55.00:D

At Lee Factory Sales, the same item is US$33.28 right now:eek:. LFS sometimes change their prices up or down. That's why i have never bought directly from the Lee Products Co (manufacturer)....I have purchased many items from LFS though.

Depending on the items, the quantity, availability, total value, the desire to get the items right away, etc....purchasing locally (pick-up), or shipped within Canada, or ordering from LFS (pick up across border or USPS) all have their advantages and disadvantages.

I have used all the alternatives because sometimes price or total cost is not the only or most important, issue.
 
I have looked at the Lee Factory sale site and every where in Canada, a Classic Cast at the factory is about $80 any where in Canada is a min. $124, but the factory charges about $65 shipping. Take it for what it is the factory is protecting it distributors.
