Whats up with this Lee-Enfield? Story behind it? or just a extreme bubbafication?

Was handed down to a buddy of myne from his grandfather. The entire gun has been chrome plated and then brass or gold plated over that, The stock has been lightened up and coated with something, there is a Peso in the buttstock, and there is stamping everywhere

Haha l like your reaction lol .His grandfather had a bunch of old FMJ 303 army rounds. it shoots VERY well surprisingly.
We've had a couple suggestions like maybe it was an olympic shooting gun or a VIP that got it plated like that.
 
If that is blued steel, then it was probably buffed not chromed.
Except for the coin looks like an average sporterized #4. Might even be a good shooter.
 
The "peso in the stock" tells it all. Some of the Mexican "art" I've seen has forced me to redefine "garish".
 
What you have is a former Lee Enfield No 4. Mk I. The maker marks would have been on the left side of the receiver wall or on the left side of the butt socket but I can imagine that they have long been polished away. Some of that black stuff on the rifle looks like the black paint put on during an FTR, what do you guys think ?

You have to admit, atleast she looks better than an Enfield in a plastic stock, those make me "puke a little" in my mouth :D.
 
Well, it may have been Churchill's personal rifle, but... most likely it came from a barrel of nice old surplus rifles and went through the famed Barnswell, Unsworth, Baliski, Brown, and Appleton workshop.:rolleyes:

Kidding aside, the old rifle is a keepsake. Unless the Liebrals (soon to be extinct) get their way and have all privately held firearms melted down, the rifle will be around for a long, long time. Give it a good cleaning and fire away!
 
Someone had a friend who worked in a plating shop.

Since the plating is crappy and peeling, you might as well have it taken off by another plating shop. Easily done.
