Wounded leopard pwns hunter before being killed

Makid, by the time you add in fees, taxidermy, travel, etc, etc, etc, I suspect you'd find an elephant/lion hunt would cost a bunch more than you're figuring. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Out of my range, anyway.

http://www.safaribwana.com/HUNT/lion09.htm

As you all will read @ the site its only $68,000 to bag a male lion and its not a canned hunt either.

Thats probably not including tipping the guide however.

If you ask me if its all about the euphoria of hunting dangerous predators is what its all about, what makes alot of sense is actually hunting other armed humans.

But that would mean signing up for an all inclusive tour of duty usually taking about 9 to 18 months.

My work covers only 5 weeks max of vacation time.

Take a look at the AR "offered hunts" board, surprising what comes up. You are right about the taxidermy though. That could really start to add up.

Cheers,

I think in that kind of terrain/brush, with animals that will just as likely charge you as run away...well...you wouldn't catch me carrying a scoped rifle there :) Maybe if i was on a tower with all the brush slash and burned for a quarter mile :)

Regarding screaming, I've heard worse from people getting stung by wasps and havign spiders on them and such. And NOT just girls, so there ya go.

One question: Where was this guy's knife?? I good solid fixed blade would have helped his chances a little, i think.

I would think that a bayonet would be even more helpful...

One thing is for certain and that is all here on this board are hunters and we need not divide ourselves!!! Like the hunt or not we cannot start this kind of s**t. There are enough people out there trying to stop our passion we need not give them any wedge for their cause.

As for the hunter getting mauled and guys saying it serves him right I just don't follow that either. The guy shooting the leopard is no different than anyone here. He set out to kill an animal he wanted. It went bad for whatever reason. Things happen when hunting and sometimes things go wrong. But for someone to say he is not a hunter and he got what he had coming is sickening to me. Remember gentlemen when you walk up to your "dead" moose and it awakens and gores you with its antlers should we say you had it coming?

I agree, I don't want my hunting style/technique or choices taken away from me so I will support this type of hunt...if it is deemed legal by the local authorities where the hunt is taking place.

But I would still crap my pants if that cat came out of the bushes at me like that!!

I do not think it is the hunter screaming. It is the leopard snarling. When I was on a 3 week safari in Kenya, we happened upon a leopard who was making a kill and he snarled like that. I think it is a bit of snarl mixed in with pain from the leopard. The hunter is lucky it came at him from the front. If it had of gotten him from the back, it would have been bad for the hunter. Good vid

Thats exactly why I've paid thousands to go on a dangerous game hunt.:D

...and that's why I will someday pay thousands to go on a dangerous game hunt.

Why? Humans have always hunted predators. It's about as natural as it gets.

Agreed. Humans are the most successful predators on the planet. So successful that most of them have forgotten where they came from. No need to justify or apologize for the urge to hunt, it's natural.

I agree hunt trouble predators only. I find predator hunting very unnatural, and the point of my hunting is to get closer to nature.

As for trophy hunting, I'm more the sort to want to shoot the ''lesser'' trophy, and let the big ones go to reproduce another day. It's unnatural to hunt the strongest animal of the pack, the weaker animals should be hunted which in the end actually strengthens the herd.

You're right, but most people don't think as much or as wisely as you do.

Same with an elephant. Why the H would anyone in this day and age want to kill such an animal? Might as well say you want to go and harpoon a blue whale. Now, there may be cases where culling elephant is necessary and then I'd say let those who want to pay for the privilege, but to go out and kill one for "sport"? Pointless, and an insult to the word "sport".

There's a big difference between shooting an over-populated herbivore for meat and shooting the prime breeding stock of an exotic species because you want a set of horns or antlers or a skin to show off to your beer buds.

Indeed. I don't understand what the big deal is about hunting non-food animals, given that hunting in a modern industrial society is inherently an activity done for sport, not necessity. If you want meat, the supermarket has lots of it at a lower cost.

As far as trophies go, the best trophy animals are usually mature and have already had ample opportunity to procreate. Passing over the lesser trophy animals given them an opportunity to develop into better trophies.

What difference does it make, so long as you leave enough game for next time?

Once again spoken like a true anti hunter - thanks for this attitude. Really helps us all. If you don't understand the importance of hunting elephants to the economy or to the elephants themselves then brush up before slandering another hunters wishes. Seriously we are all hunters and if you don't like a method or type of hunt please keep it to yourself as the anti hunters love comments like yours.

Oh yeah and we are not all beer drinking slobs like you would like to imply.

You know, if you refuse to think objectively about these issues, and insist on an "all or nothing", "them or us" mentality, you're really doing exactly the same thing as the enviromaniacs and hoplophobes of this world.

You're also making yourself look like a fanatic to the most important audience of all: the public at large.

And from a purely tactical point of view, the more nuanced, complex and reasonable sounding the responses from the firearms owners and hunters are, the more dogmatic, irrational, confused and visibly ill-informed the antis appear by comparison.

I understand the emotional and intellectual attraction of simplicity. Maybe that's enough for some people, but not for a community as threatened as ours.

Sorry, I don't agree with hunting elephants and nothing is going to make me agree except population control, (and by all means, sell the right to cull for big money to competent hunters who will get a thrill out of shooting an elephant.) I don't know what people get out of killing an animal like that, but I'm not going to speculate. They do hunting and firearms owners a disservice because most people agree with my view, not surprisingly.

And to say that opposing elephant trophy hunting is an attack on all hunting is just the Goebbels line of propaganda: never admit that your opponent is even slightly right or you admit that you are slightly wrong. Worked well in Germany, not sure it'll do so well here.

The problem for elephants is poaching, and corrupt African governments. Then you have really stupid actions like the Tanzanian/Kenyan government burning huge quantities of poached ivory which could be fed onto the market gradually to satisfy demand and fund conservation efforts.

As for "beer drinking slobs", there seem to be plenty around. People too thick to realize that they are engaged in a war for their rights and that they should learn to keep their mouths shut about things that help their opponents, at least on the world wide web. You see this almost daily on this forum.
