It depends on the unit. I carried one in Afghanistan too as well as my driver and the pre-deployment training was crap. IIRC 40 rounds in total for the PWT and that was it.

If there was a requirement, conversion kits are neither complicated to design nor expensive.
 
Maybe the Sig 2022? It's in use by some parts of the French and Portuguese militaries (both NATO members), adjustable grips, 9mm, easily made DAO, rail, simunitions compatible etc.
 
Gee, they could get Glocks for around $174/unit within weeks of order, but no. We must sit on our thumbs for several years holding out for something somehow better, in the meanwhile burning 3 times as much money. Remember how the Libs wanted us to wait until Airbus had more than a picture of it's heavy lift plane before deciding what to buy - 10 years later that aircraft is still not in prototype and we've got thousands of hours on C17's. I hope Leslie's report shakes things up at NDHQ, it's long overdue.
 
Three rounds at the range in KAF for function testing with the pistol (and C-7A2 but there was not time to zero the rifle in KAF or at Pet) and never fired it again. Oh, forgot we had about half an hour of TOET's with the pistol to qualify. Actual shooting during work-up was apparently un-necessary.
Inability to have a chambered round and be able to shoot the thing makes a knife faster. Glocks are perfect for an infantryman.
 
The feds picked an HK P2000 for corrections, i wonder if the tender document was similar?
The whole CDN factory idea might make more sense if different government depts were using the same pistol.

I would disagree. I'd think an accurate and reliable rifle or machine gun would be perfect for an infantryman. everything else is extra weight on an infantryman.
the only ones who use pistols are clerks and crew commanders either for negligent discharges or to make themselves feel cool.

sometime, a pistol is what you need. What if your main weapon fails you?

Bile careful what you say about support trades they own you ;)

Cooks- can make you s**tty meals
Techs- can f you off and make you wait
Clerks- can put your claim at the bottom of the pile
Supplie- can say oh we are all out
Posties- whoops we lost your mail

Sure there not all top soldiers but if you want something its better to play nice with them ;)

I always kiss the cooks and supplys asses "I get what ever I want now ;)"

Are there any NATO armies issuing the P2000? That was one requirement put forward - must have been in use for at least 2 years by a NATO army.

Pretty much knocks out a whole lot of the above suggestions.

Pistols are necessary. Your comments are wrong and do an injustice to those you belittle. A lot of support trade members have been in the thick of it so please research the topic before you commit to writing and then posting your comments.

The problem of course is even some serving members can be dismissive of the pistol. People on the outside can be forgiven for generalizing when a member of the CF says he'd rather leave the pistol back at base and carry another mag or 40mm in it's place.

There is no justification for what was written. It was written in ignorance but shows malice. Looking cool? Such comments ought to earn a banishment from CGN for a short while. A time out of sorts.
