Anyone here own this riffle ? I am wondering if it would be a good all-around firearms for the gun range and hunting. Cheap to shoot at gun range with milsurp ammos and hunting ammunitions are around 20$/20rounds.

Wanstall has is listed at 760$, haven't seen it on EE

Thanks!! :)

Cheap and fun to shoot at the range, but I would hardly call the little cartridge an "all around" choice as a big game rifle. Small deer at close range would be its upper limit. Pretty good varmint and fur round though.

My Girlfriend has one and its nasty accurate with factory PRVI loads at a 100 yards, touches the holes together. "all around hunting..."? absolutely not. Its good for varmints, and useful for deer just past 100 yards. Its trajectory drops and energy totally craters by 175 yards. Close range hunting only.

As for the rifle, the most accurate you can get for 7.62x39 for under a thousand bucks.

Just wondering, with open sights how do you adjust for elevation? the rear sight has no elevation adjustment I thought.

Scope. Elevation is not adjustable. However, you can change the front sight post. Scope is still easier, Eyeball shots on coyotes.

Are different front sights available?

I was told there were other front sights available from several sources, one of them being P&D in Edmonton where I bought the rifle, who felt that the item can be special ordered.

I couldn't be bothered to order the new front sight, I just mounted a fixed 4X power Bushnell scope to brighten things up in low light conditions for my girlfriend, and it shoots through a dime at 100 yards with factory soft points from PRVI.

I used go have one. It was a nice rifle, and I somewhat regret selling it. It was accurate, light and well built. I just decided that if I was actually hunting, there were rifles better suited to the task. I did shoot a couple deer with it though.
There is a used one at P&Ds right now.

Iron sights were set dead on from the factory for 50 meters. My wife prefers a red dot instead. Bang on accurate at 100yds with virtually any ammo from surplus to handloads. Excellent short range deer gun for which we bought it for.

Ever tried it for target shooting at 200 yards with milsurp ?

The milsurp ammo is dirty and not loaded as hot as PRVI or S&B, and quite a bit less accurate in my opinion. Also , the extractor wears quite a bit faster by shooting steel cased ammo, but parts can be replaced and cheap ammo is where one really learns to shoot.

As others said, its the most accurate rifle on the market for x39 ammunition short of customized products. The bullet itself has limitations, but a very nice youth rifle or carbine for a small adult such as my GF. Its a good deer and varmint gun to just past 100 or so yards, and longer if you homeload a heavier bullet with more energy.
