Hey guys,

I recently bought a russian 1939 91/30 from westrifle, and today my reg card finaly came it so I thing a range trip is needed.

I picked up some MFS 7.62x54r 185gr as a test group, however I noticed its a bit of a hotter round than the surplus stuff at 147gr. Am I ok to shoot this stuff through it?

thanks.

yes absolutely go for it. if you think tha's hot stay away from the prvi fmj

I was worried about these rounds myself in my Mosin, i shot about 30 of them last week and when i was done i noticed a swell in my barrel just ahead of the front handguard, but after getting a light and checking the bore inside i couldnt see any problems, guess this is just the shape of the barrel. Great rounds that had no problem blowing through 3/8ths steel targets. :)

LVE Ammo

BigC396 what rounds are you talking about? You are not talking about LVE brand 7.62x54 because those consider the best in the world and this is not because I am their exclusive dealer. LVE brand was sending and still sends ammo to various military around the world. Brands like Wolf Ammo and Brown Bear buy LVE ammo and mark those as premium. Gold Bear and Platinum Bear for example were made in LVE. Brown and Silver Bear were made at Barnaul and Izhmash.
So LVE plant ammo could not damaged your barrel.

The MFS 200gr SP ammo shoots better groups in every Mosin I own, in comparison to Czech and Russian 150gr surplus, and slightly better than PRVI and S&B soft points.

They are hotter than surplus loads but will not damage a serviceable rifle. I fired a couple hundred of them last week in the Yukon, a nice heavy hitting round for up to a couple hundred yards. A bit more if you can adjust your elevation to compensate the drop.

Speaking of LVE, has anyone tried them yet? I was looking at the 200gr soft points for hunting, but not sure I want an entire box of 500 plus shipping just to test out.

Did you try LVE yet?

Cheers
