A Grizzly Encounter

We just got back from the Yukon where Vanessa took a huge grizz at only 9 yards. It wasn't our plan to get that close but as we we stalking the bear, he was, unseen, moving in our direction. Finally, Vanessa had to stand up to see, as the bear was in a dip. She placed the 225 grain bullet perfectly and has another fine addition to the trophy room.

We were hunting through Deuling Stone Outfitters. Vanessa was packing a .338WM shooting Hornady Superformance Ammo with 225 grain Interbonds.

Ya, I got the entire stalk on camera...it was very intense. Glad the girl can shoot!

He's actually a border collie. We use him as a pack dog and camp guardian. Yes, he was about 15 yards from the bear when it was shot. I had him tied to my pack and he was quietly lying beside it as we've trained him to do. He never even moved after the shot. At just two years old he's still in training but he did awesome.

I find that once women get comfortable shooting, that they actually handle the bigger recoil better than many men. They seem less rigid and allow their body to give to the recoil rather than fighting it like many men seem to. Did I mention this was a 6lb 3oz .338? lol Anyhow, Vanessa shoots it well!
