Was at work and it sucked so I took off at quitting time and headed to the marsh for a solo evening hunt. It was a little slow but I still managed to pick up a limit of ducks, a couple of snipe and a suicidal goose.

A very wet and bedraggled snipe.

The first bluewing of the evening -- lots of pellets in the beak.

Beauty eveing and pictures - never understood the point of killing a snipe but to each their own - can't wait for our duck season in Ontario to open up the 24th.
Cheers, and good shooting.

Do snipe taste similar to woodcock? The first time I plucked one I was amazed at how tiny it was once the feathers were gone.

Not quite. They taste like snipe (sorry but its true). They are way tinier than woodcock but relatively easy to pluck. You're not going to feed a family on them, but shooting a couple when its slow or after you've limited definitely provides some rewards. Just use small steel -- a #2 pellet will completely destroy a snipe. With 6 steel though I went 8 for 9 on snipe on Saturday.
