How difficult can trap really be?

You know you have to be at 16 yards or further from the trap house, right? You can't hang out right at the house like in skeet. And make sure the dial on the machine is set to random, and not straight aways. Not allowed to know where the bird's going to be in real shooting sports.

*wink*

My claim about beating you or your age?

My age must be at least double yours. What's sad about trap is that many times when I go to the Calgary Firearms Centre and shoot with a squad of regulars, I am often the youngest. I am the one they call young fellar or junior.

When it comes to degree of difficulty between Trap and Skeet for me it trap long yardage handicap followed by skeet doubles.

I have yet to try longer yardage trap, but a few of us have experimented with shooting doubles skeet from as far behind the normal stations as we can on stations 2 through 6. It can be a real humbling experience.

I guess you're a prodigy. It's been a while since I broke 25 straight. But now that you've mastered the game after one round, why don't you take your talent down the the Grand American? You could win big money! Or how about helping out our Canadian Olympic trap team. Canada hasn't won a medal in mens trapshooting in a while.

International Trap is a whole other matter. Even the best competitors at the international level, can't consistently shoot perfect rounds. This is by design. Olympic and World Cup officials want the contest to decide the winner, not a tie-breaker 'shoot-off'. Throughout the history of the sport, whenever advances in equipment or competitor skills pushed average scores up, the governing bodies adjusted the rules to make the game harder.

Compared to ATA, International targets are:

  • made harder so that 2 or 3 pellet hits aren't sufficient to break the target
  • thrown at greater angles than ATA targets
  • thrown further than ATA targets (ATA targets exit the house at approx. 60 km/hr; International targets at approx. 100 km/hr. Speeds are approximate, as it's measured by distance, not speed itself.)
  • International competitors are limited to 24 grams of shot (slightly less than 7/8ths of an ounce)
Many good ATA Trap shooters make the jump to International. Many more do not. In addition to elite shooting skills, International Trap shooters must be able to manage the pressures of competition.

Most people who shoot their own game think it's the hardest, bestest, most fun, etc, etc!:D
The fact remains that trap is easier to get the hang of, but skeet averages are higher in the particular classes because the birds fly in the same direction, not randomly.
I don't shoot as much trap as skeet simply because I find the game is over too fast, and I prefer low gun doubles skeet to keep in practise for the serious stuff in my life - BOIDS!!:dancingbanana:
However, if a person is serious about ATA trap , Intl trap, Sporting clays, or whatever, it's all good ! That is until they start telling me how to shot, what is a better sport, which is harder, or ( this REALLY ticks me!) what brand of gun I should shoot because mine is inferior quality for the sport!!
As far as a good ribbing goes, I get it all the time however, but can dish it bac
Doesn't mean I'm going to run out and buy a new gun to try and beat you with, Stubblejumper oh waitaminit!! I already did that!!:bangHead:

Some people accuse me of buying too many guns, but I am not even in your league.:D You could likely supply a couple of gun shops with firearms.

The cool thing is they keep flying out of my hands into some one else's, then I get to go buy another!!w:h:
Sorry I won't get a chance to see that new trap gun of yours this weekend, I'm out of town on business next week!:(

International Trap is a whole other matter.
Same with International Skeet. Faster targets, gun down, delayed release and doubles on the middle stations. If you are feeling good about your American Skeet game a round of International may prove to be a humbling experience.

Trap from the skeet stations is also a whole bunch of humble pie!!:D

Faster targets no, but I shoot gun down so that is covered and if I hand the button to a certain member I will get delayed release and even doubles on the middle stations many times. ;)

We can shoot skeet from the bunker at VGC... if the wind is right, the low house on the first skeet field actually throws the damn things at the fifth bunker station... as in, your body may be hit by skeet targets if the skeet shooter doesn't do his part to save you. It's sort of like a bizarre combination of clay target sports and teamwork! Conversely, if people are using one of the nearby ATA fields, it'll throw birds into the bunker's field of fire. It's pretty awesome to shoot a hard left crosser on the bunker's first station and watch the ATA guys throw a fit because you broke their bird, too.

Long story short? The layout of that club leaves something to be desired.

That could get confusing, yes!!

It's nice to smoke 24, 49 or 99, but in competition I'll take the perfect score every time. Even when I shoot with my buddy for coffe or coke he will not buy my argument that I hit em harder.
LOL ... If I break a target in half to win.. for one: I am extremely grateful and two: I would buy the coke.:)
