Ordered a Butler Creek recoil pad for my Russian M44 and an ATI Monte Carlo stock with a built in recoil pad for my old Hungarian M44. I thought that the stock would be a drop in.... WRONG! I spent 5 hours fitting it with the Dremel router, carbide and sanding drums. The stock was way too narrow at the front of the receiver and missing a step recess where the barrel threads to the receiver. Got it to fit in fairly well but wasn't happy with what the clay was showing me when it was mounted so it is sitting clamped in my bench for the night waitiing for the bedding to cure. ##### of a job, at least wood is nice to work with, this fiber$hit just melts and spits at you leaving little burns.
Just a warning to anyone thinking the ATI stock is an easy mod to a M44.
Oh yeah, while I'm on here, I snapped one of the bands for the stock when I was removing them from over the barrel, does anyone sell replacement spring bands in the event I want to use the old stock again?
