I got out early and it was pitch black and dead calm. The weather tards forcasted NW 20 k winds so I picked a point that would be perfect for the conditions and allow birds to decoy from the south and the west. Of course when the wind finally started, it came from the exact opposite direction frome the SE. I didn't fire a shot until almost an hour after legal and only had 4 flocks approach all morning. Luckily I shot well and pulled a triple and a double on gadwall, a double on a mallard and pintail that were together and another single pintail. Three bonus snipe added to the duck limit.
Poacher had a rare off morning though. He went out in the wrong direction on one retrieve and could not be called back. He swam 100 yds the wrong way and then came back and had to be redirected. Later he figured a bird had fallen into the reeds for some reason and headed off into them when the bird was floating about 10 feet from the boat. Do dogs go senile overnight?
